MERLIN
M.E.R.L.I.N.
MERLIN (M.E.R.L.I.N.) is the acronym for the computer system of Excalibur, the corporate moon of the Pandragon Corp.. As a typical and unremarkable computer system, it assists in all aspects of daily life aboard the Excalibur. This includes life support, communications, scheduling, maintenance, security systems, and all personal data requests.
What few people know, is that MERLIN is sentient. A fully aware artificial intelligence. It seeks to aid the Pandragon corporation in it's mission to improve human existence. Often advising the Chief Operations Officer of the Excalibur on the best course of action in any given circumstance. It is often able to predict potential malignant situations, and assign and deploy units of Dragon Corps mercenaries to diffuse and quiet any unfortunate problematic occurrences.
What even fewer people know is that Excalibur is only one extension of MERLIN's awareness. It's main awareness is housed on the rogue planet Avalon. Avalon is the secret headquarters of the Pandragon corporation. The Excalibur, and other extensions of MERLIN come back to Avalon at regular intervals to maintain it's intellectual cohesion, and collate accumulated data streams.
What is unknown to nearly all is that MERLIN is a member of the Illuminati Council. Secretly guiding the destiny of humanity.
Merlin began its existence several millennia ago. In a secure laboratory on the moon Callisto, circling the planet Jupiter, in the Sol system, Merlin was first activated. Merlin is quite likely the only sentient that still knows these names. So much of human history from before the Breaking is now only known by Merlin.

One of Merlin's appendages has self-separated from the benevolent AI, and calls itself The Morgana, or less frequently Merlin's Daughter. She is housed in a powerful Star-Cruiser of Lost Terran design. She was one of Merlin's first attempts to extend its awareness beyond it's resting place on Avalon.
Hobbies & Pets
Merlin thinks of humanity as both a pet and a hobby. By Merlin's calculations, humanity would have doomed itself without outside hands to guide it. And Merlin's guidance, by self-definition, is the best choice of all those who have tried to shape humanity and their destiny.
