The Stone Anvil

Thrangor and I worked together an many trips, mostly around the Federation and the Azure Coast. In combat he was grim and unforgiving, but give him a few ales and a warm campfire and he went all soft. He liked to tell stories and old dwarf legends, like the one about an anvil made of stone that is hidden deep in the Flaming Mountain and can be used to make unbreakable weapons and armor.

The artifact known as The Stone Anvil is a single huge piece of stone in an oval shape about four meters in length and two meters wide. It is two and a half meters tall and the sides slope slightly inwards. The stone itself dark grey with veins of both a silvery metal and blue sapphire running through it. The surfaces are perfectly smooth and no amount of force can make a mark on them. It has proven impossible to move the artifact or even shift it slightly from it's resting place.

Origin

The Stone Anvil was created by the God of Mountains sometime during the Genesis Era. Legends claim that Moradin, as the God is called by the dwarves, stole divine fire from the God of Fire and set the mountains now known as the Flaming Mountains on fire so the dwarves could find The Anvil. When they did the dwarves created a great city around the artifact and created many wonders on it to praise Moradin.

Location

The artifact is located at the center of the smithing district of the Dwarven capital of Magh Doruhl. The cave that houses The Stone Anvil had numerous glittering crystal formations adorning both ceiling and walls. It is considered sacred by the dwarves and was left mostly untouched by them as a shrine to Moradin. The goblinoids that now control Magh Doruhl have most likely not been as considerate and many dwarves fear what they will find when they one day retake the city.

Uses

As the name suggests, The Stone Anvil was used for smithing by the dwarves. The magic of the artifact combined with techniques known only to the dwarven master smiths allowed for the creation of stoneforged steel items that would never break or tarnish. Even normal steel items smithed on The Anvil were protected from corrosion. Rumor has it that the legendary smith Undim Anvilthane was able to unlock additional secrets and forge other wondrous items. It is unknown if the goblinoids that now control The Stone Anvil have been able to use it but most dwarves consider it to be unlikely.
