Johannes Farr

"I no longer envy my ancestors’ skill of training dragons to fight their battles: the terror my Secretary can inflict upon a slacking law clerk or a room of pompous advisors, would put any self-respecting dragon to shame."
— Ludwig Dunheuvelin, the Eerste Regte of Kredashmi
Johannes Farr (pron. Yo-HAN-nes) was the youngest son of Rikkert Farr and Annemarijn Poliste. His father was killed in a warehouse accident four months before he was born. When he was six-years-old, his mother managed to secure a job at the Halls of Rest: the official residences of barristers attached to the Universiteit van Rykfontein. Before the year was out, Farr had earned himself a reputation amongst the porters and servants, who delighted in Farr's determination to help out and earn a few copper Scales in the process. By the time he turned eight, Farr had been officially hired as a porter. His primary duty was to help outside servants moving their masters in and out of the Halls of Rest.

A Fortuitous Meeting

When Farr was a young man, he spotted a student attempting to stealthily smuggle a bottle of wine into the dormitories in each of the bell-sleeves of his university gown. On challenging the student, he discovered it was Ludwig Dunheuvelin, the eighteen-year-old son of Lazarev Dunheuvelin, the Eerste Regter van Kredashmi. Ludwig was impressed by the unapologetic and uncompromising way Farr dealt with his trasgression, immediately confiscating the wine and reporting him to the Chancellor of the Universiteit. Ludwig was severely admonished and banned from attending formals for half a term. It was the start of a firm, if unlikely, friendship between the two men.

Service to the Eerste Regter

When Ludwig graduated from Universiteit, he convinced his father to offer Farr a training position as a legal aide. Recenetly married and with a young family to support, Farr accepted his friend's offer. As Ludwig suspected, Farr's sharp intelligence and unyielding attitude made him a formidable ally in the courtroom and an indispensable member of the OFFICE of the Eeste Regter.

Tenureship of Ludwig Dunheuvelin

After the sudden death of Lazarev Dunheuvelin, Ludwig was instated as a Eerste Regter. As the relationship between Regter and König soured, affecting the already fragile peace between Kredashmi's main two institutions. During this time, Lazarev's Secretary retired, a position to which Farr was immediately appointed.   A few years later, just as Ludwig felt as though he was finding his feet, his beloved wife tragically died. In the turmoil that followed, the König ignored his brother-in-law's request not to publish the inquest report into Faustine Anaïs's death. For four years, the Eerste Regter refused to enter a courtroom. He has often been heard to remark that had it not been for the decisive actions of Farr, the OFFICE of the Eerste Regter would have fallen into anarchy.   To do...   Flesh this section out.

The Elopement of Ludwig Duneheuvelin and Faustine Anaïs Schwannraelen.

It was the dead of night when Faustine Anaïs turned up on the door of the Dunheuvelin townhouse in Rykfontein with her lady's maid. The distraught pair had fled from the official royal residence of Schwannstryd Palais, seeking sanctuary from her brother, König Thaddeus II.   Farr took control of the situation. He convinced Ludwig and his father, Lazarev, to take the two women out of Rykfontein and remove themselves to Draakhohen Castle. Farr took personal responsibility in rousing the servants and evacuating those who would not be moving back to the Vuurfelde with their master. By the time the König's men turned up to search the house, Farr was the only person left in the house - and he took the brunt of the monarch's displeasure.

He sounds like a really formidable man, and a really good friend to Ludwig.

I adore Farr, he takes no prisoners. He is particularly good at dealing with best friend's wayward sons. ;)
