Windfell Trees

Windfell Trees are the single most powerful source of magical energy in Shindus. They are incredibly rare and cannot be cultivated through any known means. They have a similar appearance to a large tree, in that they have a central trunk with branching appendages spreading out from it, but they are functionally completely different from other plant life. The "branches" they have are completely hollow and do not have any leaves. Wind blows through the hollow limbs, producing intense whistling sounds that get stronger as sentient beings approach it. The wind seems to be magical, although the true nature of their origin is unknown, and the sounds are strong enough to temporarily cripple or even permanently deafen most living things without ear protection, depending on how close they get. The whistling sounds also seem to be magically enhanced, but they are slightly better understood than the wind.
The whistling seems to be raw magical energy being released from a naturally occurring conduit. When other materials that react to or absorb magical energy are exposed to the sound, they will frequently be overloaded. Their reactions will be highly exaggerated if they are not destroyed in the process.
The first Windfell Tree discovered in Shindus was found by the 7th representative of Bamalion deep in the woods outside of Lukrar as part of his miracle. However, even though he managed to locate it, its power would not be able to be harvested for several centuries. Small steps have been made in using Windfell Trees as power sources at a time, first just creating conduits that wouldn't break from being exposed to actually being able to harness the magical energy for immediate use. However, it was actually only very recently that Liruka Seizhang, the 19th representative of Bamalion, created the first conduit that could consistently and safely harness the power of a Windfell Tree and store it for long periods of time.
