Teachings of the divine will

The teachings of the divine will is the primary religion of Esmaraine. It believes that the world is governed by a supernatural force that was left to govern the earth by the creator after said creator's life on this world came to an end. This supernatural force still operates according to the will of the creator, and the followers of this faith seek to understand this will and live in accordance with it. Believing that fortune, happiness and the ability to pass on to a good afterlife will come to those that do.

Creation myth

In ancient times, the world was made by The creator, however this creator was not immortal. It was aware that eventually it would need to pass from the world, but it did not want to leave his creation without guidance. Therefore it poured its divine will and essence into a crystal: the soulshard, which would keep the world balanced according to the creator's vision. However the Soulshard was eventually uncovered from it's sacred vault and taken by a cruel entity called the Dohm. This creature required the people's belief and worship to sustain its life, and used the Soulshard to bestow 'miracles' upon the world, convincing the people it was a god. These 'miracles' would twist the wishes of the faithful, making them suffer in tribute to their god; the Dohm.   A mother whose sons were sent off to war prayed for mercy for all the young men marching towards battle. To save them from the suffering they were sure to endure. The mother was made to eternally suffer all the pain that would have been inflicted to them instead. A young pious singer's voice was so lovely, the people told him he spoke with the voice of God. The singer begged the Dohm to take away his gift, as he did not feel worthy to steal adoration from his god. The Dohm answered his prayers. The next morning the singer woke up in the cold arms of his dead beloved. The singer was torn apart, and his sorrowfull moaning echoed all throughout the land. The most horrifying sound ever heard. The singer cried out for three days, until the people could not take any more of the terribly earpiercing shrieks. They stormed his home and found him still in bed in the arms of his departed love. In a frenzy, the townsfolk attacked the young man they once loved so. They clawed and bit at him, tearing chunks from his flesh. Yet the singer never moved, only wailed on and on until his death. Eventually people even began to seek out these 'divine punishments', thinking it would please their god.   The soulshard, though in the Dohm's possesion, was still filled with the creator's will. And it resisted their defilement of the world. In a vision, it was able to show the grotesque true form of the Dohm, hidden away in the heavenly realm they corrupted. The vision was received by a faithful chosen by the name of Loic, who now saw the deception of the Dohm.   Loic journeyed to the divine realm and faced the foul entity. Before him stood the Dohm, a giant slithering monster with it's slimy hide covered in many eyes. The battle between Loic and this false god was long and tough. Were it not for the soulshard influencing the fates, Loic would surely have been slain. But it called out to him, and he slashed upon the beast's insides. There he saw the soulshard, embedded within the monster's flesh. With a mighty effort he cut it out. The Dohm shriveled up into a pathetic version of itself and perished at Loic's hand. Loic stood victorious, the soulshard in hand. It urged him to place it back in it's sacred vault. However Loic realised there was only one way to ensure that no one could ever misuse the shard again. He placed the shard on the ground and with all his might, he smashed the soulshard to pieces. The divine realm immediately began to break apart. The world began to tear and shatter bringing once great realms to complete collapse. Loic looked down to see the world suffer for his actions as the realm around him collapsed in on itself. Yet the world was not at it's end. Shattering the Soulshard had freed the divine will and essence within to flow into the world. Eventually it stabilized the shattered world. Much destruction had been wrought, and the world would never be the same again. Yet the time of healing could now begin under the guidance of the divine will, free at last.
