The Shattered World

A world without a memory. Its brief recorded history clouded by a mysterious event referred to as the Cataclysm. Before that are the Forgotten Times. Historians, mages and scientists look to adventurers to scour the Empire and beyond for artifacts, tomes, relics, any remnants of the shared story of how the Shattered World came to be. Most scholars agree that Almerra , their name for the world, is significantly older than the thousand or so years of recorded history. The world itself seems incongruous, icy lands bordering hostile deserts. Lonely mountains surrounded by ancient forests that stretch to the sea. Magic seems to exercise control over the natural world. This dominant force is not the relatively familiar magic used by mages or the divine magics called forth from what few gods are known, but an ancient, more powerful, supernatural force. Surely there are answers to the mysteries of this cobbled world.
