The Shrine
Geography
The Shrine is the name given to the island off the coast of Saltmarsh on which sits a shrine of naturally appearing stones, though they appear to have been intentially placed facing each other. It is only accessible by boat, with one of the local residents running a tour service which will row you to the island and back. Given that Saltmarsh is not a highly sought out tourist destination, demand is not high.
Localized Phenomena
The rocks that stand on this island have acted as a prison for the spirits of two different Merfolk and though this is not common knowledge, it is the reason the town has a thriving fishing industry.
The original spirit, that of Est Clan ruler Cleophara, was imprisoned in the stones after she fled the clan. She had discovered that her mother Lilith intended to eat her in order to gain power, as she had with all of her children before her, and did not want to face that fate.
Because of her fey nature and connection to the ocean, the sound of Cleophara's spirit's voice attracts many forms of ocean life, which is what made Saltmarsh the fishing town it is today.
It also may have been what subconciously attracted shore bound Merman Avris D'Est Errall when he was trying to find a place where he could lay low and settle down.

Tourism
The meager number of tourists that come to Saltmarsh will likely find their way to the island at some point during their stay. For most, it is simply an underwhelming, though odd natural occurance, however for those who are attuned to the spiritual realm or Siren Song they may feel the presence of the spirit trapped on the isle, and may even be able to communicate with it.
