Heidl, or "Goldfinch" as he prefers, claims to have been a researcher for the Sigil many years ago, examining artifacts on behalf of the Exculpate. He also claims to have received training from several academies of note across the Known World, but these claims are met quite rightly with doubt by those who speak with him given his uncouth mannerisms and disheveled appearance. Still, if one listens closely to the details, there's enough there to make him either at least partially honest or one helluva liar.
Goldfinch got himself into debt in Hampsterdam, pawned off a relic to the underworld to alleviate it, and got himself into even more debt. With his marker now being owned by the Qwynn Casino he's become something of a useful expert to
Quintus Bartholomew Marion and his allies. He heads up the expeditions on behalf of Hampsterdam, but always accompanied by some thoughful overseer.
