"I can hardly remember the world before it was all ash"Cato is one of the three lieutenants of the City Guard working directly under Tatius Silica the Captain of the Guard. He is in charge of the patrols that work around the perimeter of the city, giving him by far the largest amount of ground to cover and generally the least qualified men. He is much more familiar with the troops than the other lieutenants and gets along well with the rank and file.
