Nine-Tailed

A cat is known for her tails, and there are very few cats that can claim to be better known than the honorable Nine-Taileds. As a greater number of tails is believed to correlate with a greater potential for magic, Nine-Taileds are regarded as the paragons of the magic users. Most of the Nine-Taileds have also been priestesses of Baast the Wanderer, but there has also been cases where a cat with seemingly humble background has been able to achieve this status.

Requirements

A cat cannot achieve the honorfic of Nine-Tailed without a sign from Goddess Baast, which literally means that a cat must have nine tails to be able to qualify. The number of tails seems to correlate with the years a cat has studied magical mysteries and thus, a higher age is usually associated with a higher number of tails.

After a cat reaches the required number of tails, it is the Nine-Tailed Council's duty to decide if they are eligible for accepting the honorific. Usually this is not more than a formality, as there are very few known cases in history where a cat has been denied their title.

Appointment

Because most of the Nine-Taileds rise among the ranks of the priestesses of Baast, the possibility of a nomination for the honorific is usually known well ahead. Still, the acquiring of the rank of Nine-Tailed begins with the candidate being presented to the Nine-Tailed Council and after they have been accepted by the council, a proper nomination ceremony is held.

Duties

The Nine-Tailed Council is one of the leading bodies of the Hecatean Cats, next to the High Priestesses of Baast, and being given the honorific of Nine-Tailed means that the cat is eligible for a seat in the council. The Nine-Tailed Council is the overseer of magical matters that do not directly concern the duties associated with the priestesses, though there is a high and sometimes criticized overlap between the two groups.
