Alamë (ah-lah-MAY)
Alamë is a city situated on the edge of Í Gularë du Kvÿskva, built solely for the purpose of extracting athradite from the earth of the Plains.
Creation and Early History
Alamë was created in 726 Third Age when Lord Sarxvor, anticipating his rebellion against the King, founded a small mining settlement in order to attempt to mine the athradite and create a weapon from it. However, all attempts to create an athradite weapon failed, and when he took the thrown in 739, he discarded the project in favour of consolidating his rule. However, more people began to travel north, away from Sarxvor's grip. At the time, Í Gularë du Kvÿskva and Alamë were not part of Tílunur, and such immigrants were safe from Sarxvor's brutal rule. Over time, Alamë grew into a great city that caught the attention of the Tílunuren monarchs of the 1700s. In 1758, Queen Garinia attacked and conquered the land to the north of Tílunur, which included Alamë. The athradite weapon project was reinstated in secret, but Alamë remained a city inhabited by people from all walks of life. Once the athradite had been deemed unsuitable for a weapon, Alamë's prominence faded. As a city on the northern borders of Tílunur with no immediate purpose (trading was obsolete as the only location of note north of Alamë was Nowhere), it soon was disregarded by the nobles, and the once-great city of Alamë turned into a collection of impressive buildings hundreds of years old, with the addition of some newer, much less imposing hovels. Like the Warren in the Southern Mountains, Alamë became a place to go if you were seeking shelter from the law. As a result, it had one of the largest criminal underworlds in Irëduin for several centuries.Structure and Appearance
Alamë was built in one of the narrow valleys of the Northern Mountains, a few miles north-east of the Plains. A wall made of ancient white stone barricades the mouth of the valley, and the Citadel is made of the same material, with some of the rooms carved into the rock of the valley end. Between the wall and the Citadel is a mismatched collection of buildings, with warehouses carved into the valley walls.
