Place of Twilight Mists

In the mythology of Lepi Monotheism, the water god Raikep is said to reside with the spirits of the deceased and as-of-yet-born in a spiritual realm parallel and beneath that of the material world. This realm is known among the faithful as the Place of Twilight Mists, the Eternal Dawn, or the Eternal Dusk, with the first of these epithets being by far the most popular.

Geography

The terrian of the Place of Twilight Mists consists primarily of an endless expanse of rock and coarse sand interwoven with large numbers of rivers and lakes. Copses of conifers cast shadows across the cool mists that pervade the Place, creating long, orange godrays no matter where one stands. The air is comfortably warm at all times. As the name suggests, twilight makes up the majority of the day in the Place, as though it lay near a planetary pole; when night falls, it is always lit by a brilliant, full moon and the distant light of cozy campfires tended by spirits on the long journey towards Raikep's eternal embrace.

Localized Phenomena

It is said that those who die come to the Place of Twilight Mists appear there filled with an innate desire to seek the embrace of Raikep. The better one's water in life was spent, the closer one is to their objective; the wasteful and sinful are far from the godhead and, thus, experience the torment of one who knows their desire won't be fulfilled soon.   What happens when one actually reaches Raikep is a matter of some speculation and depends on individual religious interpretation. Northern Lepidosians who have regular contact with Evermornans tend to adopt the Ancestral Patronist notion of a return to the cycle of life and death, which might mean anything from a belief in actual reincarnation to a sense of solace that one's material being will go on to support future generations through a return the natural cycle.
