Field of Nails

Field of Nails is one of the few vbyifabid musical groups to achieve widespread acclaim even among the human-descended cultures of the Sealed Kingdoms Region. The name is a direct translation for a vbyifabid idiom meaning 'place where landing is dangerous because of ground cover,' or, more obliquely, 'going through a long and difficult experience that will end eventually'; the closest Evermornan version of the idiom is 'we climbed a mountain to get here.'
While aesthetics have both cultural and neurological roots that often fail to transcend the boundaries between species without a shared evolutionary history, vbyifabid have a unique advantage in appealing to humanoids in that their ancestors, much like terrestrial birds, evolved to communicate over long distances with song before their Flockmind ever had a chance to develop. Apropos, Field of Nails' musical style has been described as 'heavy metal as sung by parrots,' though the singers have learned to cut the harsher 'peaks' for easier listening in the somber parts.

Structure

Field of Nails features a rotating cast of three vocalists and four instrumentalists. The band is as much an institution as it was a one-off act, with the Vbyifabid Family-Flock realizing that an act with such a wide-reaching musical appeal has the additional benefit of helping humans relate to their distant friends in the vbyifabid species; Field of Nails content is streamed from relays at Valleybridge into the Cobalt Protectorate-controlled regions of space in part to raise human awareness of the vbyifabid (spoken) language and culture.
