Vatian Legionary Armor
The armor you wear is more than just a means of protection, it is the symbol of heritage and all that we stand for, for whenever we go we show the will of our empire. - Vatian CenturionFor thousands of years the Vatian Empire has been a dominant power in the Western Lands and is the sole power left to rule over it now, but the military might of it's Imperial Legions were the reason that it fell to its power. But for every Legionary that has ever fought and died for their empire, they all have one thing that has brought them success, the armor that they given when first join a legion.
Engineered for Battle
Vatians has always been known for their ingenuity, especially when it comes to tools or building, but what people fail to realize is that they believe that they thrive on war when in fact they have simply learned to master their card to become the power that is today and by mass producing these tools for their troop in the area of protection each one is considered a dangerous opponent in their own right. Barbute Helmet: A helmet that is considered reliable and effective on both the battlefield and its production. By using a single sheet of steel and several rivets the helmet is easily mass-produced and easy to repair, unlike other helmets the legionaries have used before. It. Also gives the wearer reliable vision and allows them to breathe easier with them on due to the t shape visor built into them. Repairs are fast on them as well due to their simple design making it a favorite amongst the soldiers of the empire. Legionary Armor: The standard armor of any soldier of the empire that has been improved and modified over the centuries to give its wearer proper protection. The main protection is banded armor with metal strips that are bent into the armor and overlap one another rather than just being one or more sheets forged together with only leather straps that keep them together inside the armor. In doing so the armor is lighter to wear and yet it remains strong with the metal overlapping creating a strong defense against weapons and weight is distributed across the body to avoid exhaustion. The neck is also protected by cloth wrapping to keep it warm and to avoid chafing that is caused by the armor from excessive use These can easily be replaced with new ones with they are damaged The same goes for the was of the wear as the use of Pteruges around their tunics combined with metal and leather helps them mobile without restricting their speed at all. In doing so they can run without armor holding them down. Lastly, the most recent change to the armor in the centuries, armored boots. Originally the armor came with leather boots as they were cheaper and allowed for better mobility, but advances in metallurgy have allowed these the metal plates on the boots to be flexible and light without restricting the movement of the wearer and with keeping moisture from getting in, keeping the wearer's feet dry. But the most interesting thing about it is the lack of protection on the hands with only leather arm guards protecting them. This of course is simple to understand as the hands are free from anything bulky that may have implications when they are trying to get a grip on something allowing them to be more effective in combat with no impairments. Storing the armor is not a problem either as it can easily be divided into four pieces to ensure it is not a problem when transporting it or leaving it in a warehouse until it is needed.Easy Modification
Another key feature of the armor is that it can easily be altered to suit the needs of the wearer and due to the Imperial Legions of the empire they tend to do that a lot. Like many of the legions, they have their traditions and ways of fighting their battles, meaning that they can decide to change the armor to lighter or heavier, or just modify it to a certain degree. Shoulders: The original version of the armor had no shoulder pieces when they were first built as the bands are often used to compensate for this. But shoulder armor can be easily added to it by either tying it to the armor or just forging it onto it. Helmet: The Barbute begins with a simple design that can be modified depending on the user's specifications. This could mean that a heavier plate can be placed to cover the whole face or an extra plate to surround the helmet. In some cases, the t guard can be removed as well for the wearer to gain a better vision of their surroundings or holes to allow better hearing. Gauntlets: Leather is not one of the best options when trying to protect one's hands. which is why metal can be added to it for better protection or just removed entirely for stronger materials. Certain degrees of altering can also create gauntlets to have a better grip on one's weapon or can be used to directly block a weapon's attack or catch it. Boots: The armored boots may offer better protection to the wearer's leg but at times it can be troublesome to move around in. This is why they can be dismantled to a certain degree for better mobility. Adding more plating to them is an option as well since doing so means it will be harder for someone to knock you down if you have enough weight on your legs.Manufacturing process
Legionary armor is mass-produced at a large scale in factories across the empire to ensure that the metal is properly refined for active duty. The first stop is the forge foundries to purify the metal and cast it once it has cooled. It often only takes a few days for enough of this material to be made. Once the metal is done, it is then sent to a crafter factory where the metal is sent to blacksmiths to reforge the metal by melting it and forging it to the proper form, with it being quite easy to do since the armor is made of separate sheets of metal with only the helmet and boots taking a little longer. Once done, they are then tied together to properly bend to make the final product for military use.
Significance
Anyone wearing the armor is signified as an active member of the imperial military and is to be treated as such. They are separate from most laws that are given under the empire as their lives are considered property under one of the Imperial Legions that they have chosen to fight under for many years of service to the empire. It also means that if anyone was to harm them they would face ramifications as the attack on an imperial soldier is an attack on the empire and cannot go unpunished.
The Will of An Empire
There is an old Vatians proverb that is about those who dawn the armor of the Legionary “ No matter where a legionary goes they will bring the empire with them and it's wrath to all who dare face them.” That is the influence the armor has on everyone around them. It is also a reminder that the empire is one true power in the Western Lands and no one is above its will or its laws as long as you see that armor in your sight. Especially when it is being used to strike down its enemies and make an example of others to avoid such a fate. To its people the armor is a sign of glory and influence and to others of fear and the constant reminder that being ruled by a foreign power that abuses them.Warrior of the Legion
To wear the armor means something else as well, to give one's life to become something greater than themselves, in this case, its begin part of the Imperial Legions of the empire. Your no longer a person when you join one, you are just a part of a large machine that is built on honor, tradition, and brotherhood to one another as they are sent across the land to enforce the laws of the empire they serve. The armor is all the proof anyone needs to know who you are as everyone who joins is trained to fight, kill and survive, breaking any weakness that can be found in an individual for them to come out stronger than ever before like a piece of metal. The wearer is a living and breathing killing machine that can react faster to any sign of threat they can see and strike it down without a moment's noticed without hesitation. That is what it means to be a soldier of the empire for their only purpose is to ensure that it remains standing even if it means that they will fall while taking one of many blows that could cause it to come crumbling down, but not before taking a few of it enemies with them so they may never strike again.
