Duties
The are in charge of keep the legion safe when encamped with each one watching over a century or a hundred men. Also to give watch words to the commander of the legion.
Responsibilities
In charge of the night guards and help lead patrols around the camp to secure the perimeter. Makes sure that nothing illegal is happening inside the camp as well.

Often have a helmet plume on their head that is made of horse hair and a cloak for the cold nights. Along with special are guards to block blades if taken by surprise.

History
During the days of the early legions it was quite common for enemies to attack camps at night while their guard was down. watch commanders would be created in order to properly keep guards on high alert in order to properly keep a perimeter secure at all times. These commander highly respected through out their legions due to the fact that many of them would save them sneak attacks of saboteurs that tried to destroy the encampment. To them it is a matter of life and death when it comes to fighting in enemy territory and one small mistake could lead to the deaths of many in the process. So they will remain enteral vigilant no matter where they may be.
Cultural Significance
To be a watch commander is to be greatly respected among the men that he is keeping the peace from internal and external threats from the legion.
