Salt Cakes

Ahh, there is nothing like some good old Salt Cakes after a hard day's work. - Dwarf Miner

Salty Dessert

Dwarves have many strange appetites that most other races will never understand, but one of the few dishes that they can find delicious is Salt Cakes if they can manage to eat them without choking on them due to a large amount of is put in them. Dwarves, unlike other races, have a more robust tolerance to salt intake at an excessive rate that they seem fine after eating it. Considering sugar does not exist in most holds and the Dwarven Kingdoms, it is no wonder why the next best thing they would use would be salt for their treats. They have, of course, found many different ways to exploit their endless supply of salt and find other ways to have a twist on their original recipe to ensure that they have the best taking experience they can have as much as possible.

Salty Cravings

Dwarves have always had their way with mining and had managed to find just about everything they could dig up. But when they found salt mines, it was considered a blessing as they seemed to love salt quite a lot and couldn't get enough of the stuff. While they often put salt in small amounts on most of their dishes to enjoy their flavors, they got the idea of just making a dessert to satisfy their salt cravings. It was from here that a renaissance of salt pastries began to rise. Only many of their recipes have salt instead of sugar. But out of all of them, salt cakes became the most popular type as it has found different varieties to exploit the salty goodness to appease their cravings altogether fully.

Variety Ingredients

Many ingredients can add to make a salt cake as Dwarves are not picky eaters, except for seafood, but that's another story. From here, they can mix and match these ingredients to get whatever type they want without worrying about what they are trying to make.   Salt: The main ingredient of the cakes, while most races only use one type of salt to use in the foods that are not a danger to them, Dwarves have various kinds of salt that they use to bake with some having different flavor to them.   Nuts: You might be wondering how they can get their hands on nuts if they live underground. Well, Hill Dwarves have grown their unique breeds of nuts that can be grown underground and harvested.   Berries: Berries are a rare commodity as very few types grow in Dwarven territories, so they are acquired through trade as they are only available at a particular time of the year of growth in hard to reach places.   Meat: Meat is never an issue as they will eat insects, rodents, cattle, and possibly anything trying to eat them as they can't seem to help themselves.   Mushrooms: One of the all-time favorites that a Dwarf cannot live without and found just about anywhere they can reach.   Jelly: Jelly can be either fruits or vegetables found in the mountains with nothing going to waste.   Fillings: Anything can be turned into a paste to a Dwarf when they feel like they do not want to chew their food, which can mean anything they put their minds together.   Flour : Say what you will, but Flour made by them is considered the most finely made in the land. They think smashing it with a hammer is better than grinding it.   Spices: Spices are considered a trade secret to ensure that none can copy their recipes.   Yeast: Harvesting yeast is problematic, considering the fungus needed to harvest to make it take a while to grow.   Sauce: Sauces used are often from other dishes as a Dwarf is never wasteful when it comes to food and is used to its fullest extent.
