Young Troublemaker

Denarus' younger years were not the kindest to him as he was the third child in his family and a second son. Meaning that he was often ignored by his parents while they groomed his older brother and sister in the ways of the nobility. So he soon became a trouble maker, to get back at their neglect. This ranged from setting free horses out of the stables to making things disappear and reappearing in the strangest of places. Though he often got into trouble when he was younger he quickly learned to keep his track concealed to avoid being caught in the act. Often acting as the diligent son that did what he was told and behaved himself to avoid suspicion. It also helped him to remain hidden in plain sight and spy on people when they least expected it. Though eventually as he grew older his family sent him away to live with relatives in House Dumere as a ward of the family as he had never left the family estate in his entire life.
Though away from his family he still acted like he usually did as he had a knack for causing chaos in the shadows and seeing the reactions it caused. Of course he had to be more careful around his uncle, George Dumere as he was a strict man and punished anyone for the slightest offence. Here he would meet his first real friend, Maria Dumere. She was quite the trouble maker herself since she was a kindred spirit that didn't like the strict rules that her father imposed on here and quickly took a liking to Denarus. So they would watch each other's backs and he would be changed by her as she taught him to be kind to others and only cause trouble for the people who really deserved it. This opened up new possibilities for him as well as Maria was a social butterfly at a young age and made many friends among the children of nobility. He would also become close friends with Maria's fiance as well, Theodosius Kasval.

Friends in High Places

Become a friends with a member of House Kasval and next in line to the throne of the Kingdom of Ardania was something that people not miss the chance to have. Though Denarus cared little for the politics at his age and found Theodosius to be quite the inspiring young man to be around. They would often see each other when he was visiting Maria and Denarus would learn from him the true values that all men should follow. This would gain the attention of his parents who wanted to gain influence over this as House Gedeli had lost much of its power a century and wanted to regain some of it by being connected with the royal family. He of course obeyed, but did not affect the friendship he had with him at all. But it became something more than that to him as he realized that he was in love with him. Knowing his attraction to men would likely have him disowned and punished by the Church of the Spirit and Flame he kept it a secret. He knew that his desire to be with him would never come true as he was not attracted to him, but he was still willing to do anything for him.
But he never realized how highly Theodosius thought of him and managed to persuade his father to offer him a seat in the royal court during his teenage years. Which he did not refuse and saw what truly like to be among men of power when he arrived at court. He did everything that he could to ensure that he did not disappoint his family or his friend at court and improved himself in any way possible. He also found out that the royal court suited him, as people here were as manipulative and cunning as he was during his younger years. It did not affect him at all as he knew his way around the holes and corners of every scheme and plot that tried to use him. For he had truly mastered the art of subterfuge and political intrigue as he became a crow flying high above all to see what they were doing. He used this to protect Theodosius and Maria when they finally married and were living in the capital. But his watchful eyes upon them were soon averted as he was soon told that his brother, Jenner had died in a riding accident and he was made next in line to inherit the title Herrshal of House Gedeli. Which would not take long as his father had passed away from the grief of losing his son. Forcing him to leave the capital to return home after his coronation by the king to see to his family's estate.

Thrown into Power

Being Lord over his own lands and ensuring that his family's future was secure was something that he was not expecting to do in his life, but he quickly learned how to manage his holding and keeping his people happy. It seemed that his uncle did manage to teach him something useful after all rather than just scolding him. His family's lands and wealth had since diminished, leaving him in a precarious state to be in as the vassals under him were undermining his rule and signs of corruption could be seen in the settlements all around. This would not for long however as he created a network of informants and spies to gather dirt on those who were guilty and used disciplinary measures to put nobles back in their place. He soon began investments and better ways to gain income within the region. Making it a prosperous domain in only several years and the name of Gedeli seemed to be something that should not be taken lightly. Though he wanted to have his youngest brother, Feran to take his place on day as planned to never marry due to his sexuality and claimed that he was infertile to avoid suspicion.
It was only a few years later that he had received a letter from his friend, Theodosius who was now king for only a year after the passing of his father and wanted him to join his council. This of course would be the role of spymaster he had proven himself qualified to take office. He was happy to see his friends again and quickly took to his position as he had eyes and ears all throughout the kingdom. Making him known as The Crow as he was everywhere and nothing was hidden for too long from him. He was efficient and calculated about everything he learned to ensure the realm was safe. But when Maria died in child birth to her son Louis he went to a dark place and began to take up drinking. His judgement was clouded for the loss of his first real friend and did know what to do. It was not until King Theodosius told him to live on for her that he returned to his duty, but his drinking habits did not leave him. He was more preoccupied in his work than ever ensuring that nothing happened to the royals. Which was soon rewarded when he caught nobles trying to poison the king. Ensure his loyalty to the crown above all else and he was rewarded with benefit to support his house and family. But he would lose Theodosius a few years later to disease which almost brought him to the edge of sanity. But what most people did not see coming was Theodosius' final will for Denarus to be Royal Administrator and guardian to his son Louis, making him one of the most powerful men in the kingdom overnight.

Ruling from the Light and Shadows

Just as his duty as spymaster, his role as Royal Administrator was taken seriously as he managed the kingdom while Prince Louis was being groomed to become King when he came of age as he was five years old at the time. The administration of Denarus was something of an age of deception and prosperity for the kingdom as he used his spy networks to gain control of the nobility to ensure no one did anything to harm Prince Louis as the boy was now like a son to him. He was willing to do anything to keep the boy safe from harm as he was the only link to his friends that was left. Though his drinking was getting worse over time, he managed to create reforms in the government to better the lives of the people and punish the wicked. Which made him many enemies as the years went by and a few attempts on his life were planned, but were quickly thwarted by his spies. But as Louis was getting older he soon found out that he was more focused on the social aspects of the kingdom rather than the political landscape which troubled him greatly. As he would clearly be taken advantage of when he took the throne, so he managed to convince him to become his royal advisor when he became king. Which soon came before anyone even realized and quickly consolidated his power when he received the title.
While King Louis XI was considered just and honorable king loved by the people, the real power behind the throne was Denarus himself as he saw to the proper needs to protect the king and the kingdom from harm. Often suggestion thing to the king and always seeing them done by him. This would ensure that his rule would be prosperous as everything was under his control. But he knew that he would not be around forever and began installing people he mostly trusted inside the government and even members of his family as well. Most notably his niece and nephew, Elisa and Jordan who were twins and were just as craft as he make them his wards when he saw their potential. Elisa would make Louis fall in love with her and later become queen, while Jordan became spymaster just a Denarus was decades earlier. Both were happy with their roles as their uncle had given them purpose in life when their parents did not. Knowing that all things would be right brought Denarus peace as he reach his final years when his drinking was reaching the point of constant consumption. Then one day his heart would give out after his last bottle of wine did not agree with him and passed away in his chambers. He was given a state funeral by the king and thousands would attend as he service to the kingdom was one to be admired and honored for the work he did for it. Even though it was all for selfish reasons really as he did only of the ones he loved.
