Alendrites

You best be careful when you deal with Alendrites they know how to get right into your coin purse with their words and their goods. - Cautious Man
Alendrites hail from the city-state of Alendrea, the city of merchants on the Dark Continent. They are considered masters of the art of trade and have access to a vast amount of goods that have been desired by many across the world and are hard to acquire. But through them, that task is no longer a problem. Making them highly influential amongst nations for their control on trade goods. All the while gaining large amounts of profits due to so many people wanting said goods.

Culture

Culture and cultural heritage

People of Many

Alendrites are not one people but are from many parts of the world that make up the cultures that they make up with each one following their own beliefs and traditions all the while going about their lives. Often being with their the buyers and wares from their homeland to sell at their stand to sell. Making the city itself highly diverse in the goods brought into its wall as many try to buy them.

Merchants at Heart

If anyone lives in Alendrea that means they have been recognized as a merchant as everyone in the city is selling something within its walls. That means that there is a large variety of goods that can be found from many parts of the world due to their many backgrounds. Many of which will be highly sought after from buyers that are in search of them. Their charisma is something that should not be taken lightly either as they can get even the most stubborn of buyers to open up their coin to them with ease.

Shared customary codes and values

Coin is King

As merchants, they live for profit, meaning they are always looking to find money where ever their goods are sold. Of course, that means unless there are profits to be made somewhere else they will not leave the city at all and just continue to do business in it. They are not to be trifled with either as those who have little money to buy their goods are not worth even paying attention to.

Rules are Rules

Alendrites are very strict when it comes to the rules that they follow when they are conducting business. It is with these rules that they have become so successful in their business ventures in trade across the world. It is also why many trust them to conduct business fairly because of these rules and continue to do business with them. Such as always being respectful, never insist on something, never offend someone, knowing when to quit, and never do harm to the customer are some of the many things that have kept them in front of all other types of merchants in the world. Along with understanding, their own hierarchy as they tend to have wealthy merchants that rule over the minor ones to have them be ordered where to go and which products are most profitable.

Common Etiquette rules

Greeting Customers

A merchant must always have a smile at their customer to not scare them off and say something that flatters them to gain their attention. Along with going on by saying eloquent things when showing their wares such as their location, their rarity, and so on. Doing so will cause the customer to see through the wares and hopefully buy something by the time they are done looking.

Common Dress code

Clothing must be clean and stand out in a crowd to attract attention to oneself. It should often be displayed as bright and colorful as if they were a peacock. Other than that is does not matter what design of type of clothing needs to be worn.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Business: Trading in goods are often what Alendrites know by heart as they know how to properly buy and sell things to earn their keep. It is the reason why they are often the most successful merchants in the world for that reason.   Haggling: Just because they like to be business doesn't mean that they can't find the best way to properly profit from a deal. With their silver tongues, they will often get what they want to make a profit.

Common Taboos

Selling Death: Alendrites follow a simple rule when trading, they do not sell weapons, harmful substances, magical items, and so on. This is due to the fact these items tend to kill their customers and anyone they use on them. Which they believe that they should not sell for moral reasons as their goods are meant to bring enjoyment and not death. Plus killing causing the deaths of current and future customers is bad for business.   Breaking the Rules: Alendrites are forbidden from breaking the rules that they have made for themselves to conduct business. To break the sacred rules is strain the reputation of Alendrites everywhere and shame on oneself resulting in severe punishment.   Dissemination: A merchant should never be picky when it comes to customers no matter where they come from. To favor one group over the over only means the loss of potential buyers. All are welcome to look and buy wares as money is money no matter who has ownership over it.   Business Before Pleasure: The world is full of temptation that should be avoided at all cost or at least after a decent profit is made as the coin is a merchant first love above all else and all other pleasures should be cast aside until their job is done.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Clothing: Wearing well-designed clothing often attracts attention as it helps them stand out amongst the crowd.   Grooming: Always be well cleaned with skin hair and the skin washed to avoid the smell and filth on the body to ensure that customers do not walk away due to sanitary reasons.   Perfume: No one likes someone who smells like garbage, which is why perfume is a good way to smell good and attract curious customers.

Desirable Goods

Due to the trade value that Alendrea processes for the many exotic goods that enter its walls it is considered to be foolish to turn down a resident of the city who wants to set up shop in another part of the world. For they will trade beasts, spices, treasures, cloths, delicacies, and crafts from exotic places where very few people can get their hands on them. Making many of the rich of the lands that they trade income to see their many wears and how much they will be willing to spend for them.

Bringers of Fortune

“Money is going wherever an Alendrite goes” as the saying goes as they will almost often make a profit where ever they go across the world. For their goods always are exotic and wonderful that very few people can resist just to gaze upon them. It is also said some places in the world will be often treated as kings due to the amount of money they gain and the amount they will are willing to spend from their profits that can make anyone’s day a good day. As many will go a night on the town to buy local goods and enjoy the pleasures that they have in their region. Making entire cities feel rich by the time they leave to either return home or sell goods someplace else.

Equal Opportunity

Alendrites do not discourage anyone from joining their ranks if they know how to properly conduct business. This is why many of them come from different parts of the world as they are a people of coin and profit and nothing beyond that will discourage that. It doesn't even matter if some of them are men or women either as they either one can sell something to make money as it does not require much to do so. They also don't discriminate between customers either as long as they follow their rules as they are there to buy their goods and things like allegiance and gods have nothing to do with making a profit.
