The Royal Empire of Mekharia is a vast, environmentally stunning nation, ruled efficiently with an even hand and remarkable for its military service and keen interest in outer space. The hard nosed, hard working population have some civil rights, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often. The large government juggles the competing demands of Environment, Defense, and Infrastructure. It meets to discuss matters of state at Commonwealth House in the capital city of Stape.   The powerhouse Mekharian economy, which is worth a remarkable 1,555 trillion Etras per anum, is driven almost entirely by government activity. The industrial sector is mostly comprised of local businesses, fishing and tourism. Average income per citizen is 26,500 Etras, and is evenly distributed with the richest citizens earning only 3.3 times as much as the poorest.   Nudism is wildly popular, huge fines are levied against anyone who eats at the theatre, politicians are often required to supplement their income, and football is the national sport. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to the all pervasive military police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Fort Europe's national animal is the Red Dwarf Dragon, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies, and its national religion is Carintheanism.   Mekharia is a nation with a rich tapestry of peoples and history, which in it's current form controls an Empire of many territories spanning the planet Terra. Formed from a union of more than twenty formerly independent nations, the Mekharian Empire is devoted to peace and prosperity, with freedom and civil rights at its heart. Control of the Grynerian Strait, a busy trade passage between the two major continents of Terra, provide the Empire with its vast prosperity, while the Empire its self enjoys a wealth of trade with many other nations, some as far flung as the Southern Rim and Devons Island. The Empire is governed by a democratic council, the head of which is the ruling monarch of Mekharia.
