Lian, Light's Shield

Nicknamed Light's Shield for his heroic deeds and the people he saved over his years as a paladin, Lian is one of the more famous of Avion's champions. After many heroic deeds, saving townspeople from evils threats and helping to spread belief in Avion, Lian eventually became part of the Goblin War in Southsea, where he made his final stand as a paladin.   At Light's Bastion, a fortress near the coast, he helped a group of soldiers hold against impossible odds. They held for a long time, and when the situation looked dire he personally led a charge out to defeat the goblins' leader, saving the fort and his remaining men.   After his successful battle, he retired, having seen his fill of conflict and war. After the war was over and the area stabilized, the fort he'd helped hold became a temple with his aid, and he became a member of the clergy there. He helped guide the church as it was forming, leading it to do more than simply preach and try to earn converts, but to spend their time and resources trying to help the hurting people of the region from the aftermath of the war.   The church, and Lian himself, played a large part in the recovery of the area, and even after the war was long over and the destruction rebuilt, he and his clergy members continued to do their part to help the sick and poor and needy.   He lived for a long time afterwards, and even after his death the morals he helped instill lived on, and the church remains one of Avion's greatest, and a great boon to its region to this day.   In the later years of his life, once the church was more or less self-sufficient and the area restored, he spent some time traveling around the whole of the southeastern coastlands, helping to aid people even from outside of Southsea who had been hurt in the war or in more recent disasters. He has a statue inside the fort, honoring everything he did for the people of the whole region.
