The Return of the Terran Union

In the distant future, the human race, once the pinnacle of technological achievement and the greatest military superpower, has fallen. The funny thing is, no one remembers what caused the collapse of the Solar Union, and no records from that time period have survived intact. In fact, nobody remembers the Union, or anything earlier than 2,000 years in the past, not even the descendants of the survivors on lost colonies and crown worlds or its ancient allies. The only remnants of humanity's former glory are ruins, humans all over the galaxy, and shattered worlds and ships of unknown origin. The remnants of humanity are taken as slaves for cruel and alien masters.   It has been almost 2,000 years since the supposed end of the conflict, and the scattered populations of humanity have begun to look to the stars once more.   Societies, both human descended and alien, are discovering the Terran Union remnants and reverse engineering new technologies. There other remnants however are definitively not a product of human or other pre-collapse species. Most of these remnants are thankfully little more than plasma scorched hulks, adrift and useless. The ones that are operational, well pray you never find yourself in their path.   One such remnant is still fully operational and hidden, for now: an ancient human space station and shipyard in orbit over the planet of Berin (formerly known as New Berlin). Within the network of repair yards, component fabricators, habitat modules, solar arrays, and hangar bays lie the last mostly intact human warship. The SUS Tranquility. One warship, five former slaves, and one post-singularity AI against a magically empowered empire. What could possibly go wrong . . . .
