The Natural Disasters #10: Decisions Under the Two Suns
General Summary
The siblings have a conversation, and everyone sees the peculiarities other than the physical ones of Syllin. She seems glad that her siblings are there but not specifically excited. Instead she just says random facts and historical instances she knows to relate to what is happening and questions if the oddities of the party themselves are normal. Eventually, she said she was heading to the Clerical Clerks and walked away.
After this, Hope headed over to sign up at the main operating center of the Hellriders. In the meantime, Bear had left the Bathhouse and found Kriv and Ariel while they dealt with trading money and the like. Then, the three of them went to the Companion's Traveler, an adventurers inn to wait out their night and go to sleep.
Hope went to the Hellriders headquarters and waited in line for a long while. Then, she went in and dealt with a dwarven figure who covered her burn scar with her beard. She explained that it would take months to get the paperwork sorted and for her to work, but this could be expedited if she solved an issue they were having.
Thus, Hope investigated and found her party to rest inside the tavern with them for the night. The next morning they talked to the dwarven figure to learn that some snake-people had captured a keep and wanted to speak to people, so she asked the party to save the captives they had and not to trust them in any way.
The party went out to the captured keep and spoke with the strange creatures who remained on the walls. Turns out, they wanted an allyship with Elturguard in defeating their common enemy, and this was the easiest way for them to gather the attention and leverage they needed. Most of the party pointed this out as stupid, but the snake-person leading the conversation seemed certain it was the way. The conversation ended with a pact: a snake person had his arm removed and given to Hope as her request.
This actually worked out, and the Natural Disasters were told to return to gain their training. Upon their return however, Guy Wylde, in a carriage, told the group that their target was on the move and a possible ambush was ready to remove them from the equation.
The Disasters set up an ambush and waited for a long while arguing about how to pull it off, but then the convoy of enemies came, and, as assassins do, Bear nearly outright murdered the target and Kriv finished him off, and the party ran away as a whole squadron of units chased after them. Luckily, their speed or their ability managed the whole group to escape before returning together on their journey to Elturel a little later.
Upon arriving in the city, everyone became entranced with their trainings or own acitons. A month in, Syllin approaches Kriv to ask him to accompany her and some Companions to investigate an old keep, and the strange feeling that was calling to him seemed to push him to head with her. He accepted, and they moved off, travelling for a few days, yet, before they even had Fort Morninglord in their sight, they were overtaken by creatures of darkness on all sides. A tiefling stood out from the group that surrounded the warriors of light and lit them aflame, so that their light may be burnt to ashes. Then, one morphed into a large rhino and gored Kriv in the back as he tried to protect the burning convoy, and he fell, bleeding out but conscious.
Syllin grabbed Kriv and flew away with him in her arms, with the light of the Companion shining behind them. She carried him far away, put him down, and wrapped bandages over his wounds, but he still wasn't cognizant enough to heal himself, so as the light of consciousness faded into darkness, Syllin grabbed her blade and flew off into the unknown.
