Zerrikar

Dear friend,

I hope this letter finds you well. I have so much to tell you about life here in Zerrikar! As you know, our city was conquered by the empire some years ago, but we were able to negotiate favorable terms that allowed us to maintain a degree of autonomy and insularity. We are still technically part of the empire, but we are allowed to practice magic freely within our city's walls, which is something of a rarity in the empire.

I must say, it is a strange feeling to be living in a city that is part of the empire, but at the same time, not quite like the rest of the empire. We are allowed to have our own traditions and customs, and are free to practice magic as we see fit, so long as we do not cause any trouble or disrupt the peace. It is a delicate balance, but so far, we have been able to maintain it.

Speaking of magic, you would not believe the incredible Mage Academy we have here in Zerrikar! It is a truly wondrous place, where mages of all kinds come to study and learn from the best in the business. The Academy is located in the heart of the city, and its towering coloured spires are a sight to behold. Inside, the facilities are top-notch, with libraries filled with ancient tomes, magical laboratories stocked with all manner of reagents and equipment, and classrooms where professors and students engage in lively debates and discussions.

I am fortunate enough to be studying at the Academy myself, and I have learned so much in just a short time. The professors are all incredibly knowledgeable and skilled, and they are always willing to share their wisdom and experience with us. There is a strong sense of community at the Academy, with students from all over the empire and beyond coming together to learn and grow. I have made many friends here, and I am sure that I will leave the Academy as a powerful and accomplished mage.

Outside of the Academy, life in Zerrikar is good, overall. The city is bustling and vibrant, with a rich culture and history. The people are friendly and welcoming, and there is always something new to discover or experience. The city is surrounded by the Lichwoods, a mysterious and magical forest that is filled with all manner of rare reagents and magical creatures. The Lichwoods are a popular destination for mages, as they offer a wealth of opportunities for study and research.

One thing that I have come to appreciate about Zerrikar is the way that magic is woven into the fabric of everyday life. It is not unusual to see mages casting spells for all sorts of purposes, from lighting lanterns to healing the sick. Magic is respected and valued here, and it is not uncommon for people to seek out mages for their services. Almost all students who graduate are guaranteed a Job, working to better imperial life! Many get to travel and see the world! One of my upperclassmen learned he is going to serve a Court Mage in Valême, the Capital of The Cradle of Life! That sounds like paradise!

Overall, I am very happy living in Zerrikar. It is a unique and fascinating place, with a rich history and a vibrant culture. I am glad to call this city my home, and I hope to be able to share it with you someday.

Until then, take care of yourself, and do not forget to write back!

  Your friend, Elara
