The Hinterlands
"The Hinterlands are a vast and wild region, filled with untamed forests, snow-capped mountains, and rushing rivers. For those brave enough to call it home, the Hinterlands offer freedom and opportunity unlike any other place in the empire.
As a Mage, I was once hunted and persecuted throughout the empire, forced to live in secrecy and fear. But in the Hinterlands, things are different. Here, magic is not only tolerated, but it is valued and even embraced by the local Barons. In return for my service in the Baron's Mercenary Company, I am allowed to live and practice my magic freely.
Recently, however, the Hinterlands have been faced with a grave threat. A city in the north of the region fell to a demonic beast, and was then further destroyed by living plants that overgrew the city, suffocating and killing all those within. These plants, led by a humanoid creature made of flesh, bone, and plant, have continued to spread across the north of the Hinterlands, swallowing up entire villages and threatening to engulf the entire region.
As a member of the Baron's Mercenary Company, I have been called upon to defend the Hinterlands against this terrible threat. Together with my comrades, I will fight to protect the people of this wild and wonderful region, and to drive back the darkness that seeks to consume us all. The Hinterlands may be far from the capital, but to me, it feels like the very heart of the empire. Here, I am free to be myself and to use my magic to make a difference in the world. And for that, I am truly grateful."
