The Common Tongue

The Common Tongue, or Common, is a language spoken widely across Ademlos by most civilized races. Common is spoken exactly the same as modern English, though most races will speak with an accent that their culture has retained from their ancestral languages. The Common Tongue was originally developed by the Gnomes of Aratrum as a combination of the traditional Orcish, Elven, and Gnomadic languages, taught by religious Gnome missionaries spreading the teachings of the Church of Ember to other races. As the Church of Ember grew to become the predominant Common Faith in the realm, the Common Tongue was adopted as the official language for the major number of regions in Ademlos. Today, Common is spoken even by many races and individuals who do not follow the Church of Ember simply due to its everyday usefulness in communicating across racial barriers.
