Hound of the Banished Self

Description: These vile creatures are what happiness, joy, and comfort used to belong in the ranks of the Destiny's Hand. Born out of a dark ritual, these hounds will hunt for much more than flesh. Their half-corporeal form allows them some freedom to affect the layers of reality upon which consciousness is built. In this way they attack not only the heart; but the mind and soul.   The Hounds of the Banished Self are dark forms. Specters of misery and pain. They often claim a territory from which to lurk and hunt. Expanding out over years. While built like a wolf, they have bulkier heads and bodies. And between one and three, "fins", extend from their back. Each additional fin relating to its overall strength.   Origins: Note: The limited information we have comes from ex Destiny's Hand members. Despite their apparent recovery, one should not ignore the possibility that these horrific tellings originate from any number of deceptions. Intentional or not.
The Destiny's Hand, with all their gravitas and depravity, use this creature in their initiations. It is symbolic of the removal of care from a person, by being a literal removal of care from a person. The creature supposedly is formed out of their positive memories. Memories of support, happiness, love, and other such instances. Then banished to another realm. Leaving only a shell of disappointment, disgust, and despair. Those who say the Destiny's Hand are simply misguided could be right; were it not for this ritual.
What's worse, as one progresses in the Destiny's Hand, they must bring back the Hound and add further feelings from deep in their self to the hound. Therefore the Hounds from these beings will be stronger. And those who summoned them, without remorse.   Tactics Used: The Hounds of the Banished Self will often slink up to prey. Utilizing their dark, semi-corporeal form to get within ambush distance. Once close enough, they will single out a target and pounce. When hunting in groups, or following only a few targets, they will often attack another target after a successful attack. For you see, after successfully harming an individual a remnant of their essence stays attached. This sludge dissipates after time, but will prevent translocation from occurring until then. Let me make this clear: You will not be able to teleport until after the sludge has cleared. This ability has brought down some of the best Crusaders. I pray this will not be you.
These creatures do not fear death. The ritual in which they were formed twisted the joy into wrath. The comfort into pain. They will not stop. Rumors say their death does not even truly stop them. Only brings their hunt elsewhere.   Counter-Tactics: If one knows they are being pursued by a hound we have a few suggestions. Firstly, they cannot willingly go between dimensions. They require outside help in order to travel the grid. If you are able, this is the surest way to escape their dimension-locking effects.
Outside of this, you could prepare traps. Via spells or otherwise. If you were unlucky enough to be sent out hunting these beasts, essence traps have been provided. These can lock the hounds or other incorporeal creatures inside the focusing gem. Until you are ready, stay away from potential cover and in a group if possible. Both of these discourage the hounds from attacking, as the prey is not as guaranteed.   Hunter's Report: This section was written by beings outside the Timeline Crusaders. To get further information, one would need to re-establish contact through the grid. Names have been provided, or left as anonymous when requested.  Barnaby Garhide: "Had one trapped in a dark cave in the violent seas. I can confirm they don't swim better than normal. Only reason I could get away." Edalyn Blakiston: "When one of these beasts hunted after me, it came into my home. Like any self-respecting witch I had wards set in place. As the monster traipsed over to me, cowering in a corner, bleeding; I activated one from my desk. After I came back to, it was gone. I don't know what happened exactly. I don't believe my one trap should have killed it. But I did manage to wake up, after all."   Guild Review: A section of our own experiences with the beasts. In this case, mainly how to safely contain one.
As far as we have found, they do not have a, "safe distance", from which they no longer hunt. Their territory simply expands until they run out of things to destroy and maim. Our best option thus far has been essence traps. These devices can trap ethereal beasts by attuning their metaphysical form to a crystal. Note that one should prepare a suitably strong crystal with which to catch these abominations. We have found dark blue gems to be suitable for basic hounds. Those with the single fin. Yellow and green can catch those with two fins. And finally, pink is the minimum necessary to catch three finned hounds. If you do not have the proper equipment to deal with a Hound of the Banished Self; abort immediately. There may be no escape if you don't.
