The Temple At The Mouth Of The Cavern
Who are our gods? Forces of nature beyond comprehension. We must revere them no matter what, even if they are from The Cavern.Interview with the Denizens of the Quarantine: Gignō
Demographics
5 Cukamunga, 10 Spearmen, 5 Clubbers, 20 monks-in-training, 9 Godiens, and 1 Krōn.
Government
The Krōn is the leader of the Temple, and carries the most weight when making nearly every decision around the Temple. She decides how the monks are trained, what they eat, their schedules, and how to deal with threats. The Spearmen and Clubbers are the main lines of defense for the Temple, and hold some authority when the Krōn is unavailable. The Cukamunga serve as advisors and also as a method of bringing in money and food. These can also be donated by travelers. The food is distributed equally between everyone living in the Temple. The monks-in-training do the chores around the property in exchange for the free housing and food.
Defences
Around the main temple is a rudimentary stone wall with a small gate in the front made of wood. Additionally the top of the building where the spears are kept serves as a watchtower.
Industry & Trade
When resources are low, the Cukamunga are sponsored by the Krōn. With the money they buy and resell miscellaneous things for more than the item is worth. Once they've made more than the amount they were given, they buy some cheap, mid-to-high-quality goods. When they return they donate everything they have made. Because of this, they don't have to take part in chores.
Infrastructure
Out back the Temple has a latrine with a primitive sewage system. Out front they have a clay furnace and a donation chest that is checked every morning by one of the monks-in-training. Inside there are less-than-comfortable beds with a few shelves in each room. Out by the mouth of the cave they have prayer mats. Nearly everyone who lives here (and people who are just passing through) stop at these mats to give a prayer in hopes of protection from The Shadows.
Assets
In a room below the Temple, the Krōn stores the food and monetary donations. However, on occasion the monetary donations will be used to sponsor the Cukamunga, as they are masters in the art of doubling one's money. The clubs are stored in the bedroom that the Clubbers all share while the spears are kept in the point at the top of the building.
History
Legends of the Zinc tell of a mortal (or god, depending on the teller) who constructed a "Grand Defense" against The Shadows and the evil that is The Cavern. Most believe that they can supress the evil by means of prayer, but how true that is remains to be seen.
Architecture
The main building is made of stone and wood. It points up towards the sky as if to assert that they will soon take to the skies. The base is rectangular, and comes to a point as you look up to the top.
Geography
The Temple lies next to The Mouth Of The Cave. The surrounding area is partially grassy, and has a single stream a mile or so away from the main building. From the watchtower one could look out and see the desert hellhole that is the inner portions of The Quarantine. If you were to look the other way, you would see what seems like the start of dense foliage.
Natural Resources
It has been speculated by the Cukamunga that take residence in the Temple that there may be some valuable ores within The Cavern. However, entry is strictly forbidden by the Krōn, and you run the risk of being put to death if anyone was to find out about your little transgression. Aside from what might be in the cave, there is little in the way of resources.
The Temple is incredibly reliant on donations and the investment power of the Cukamunga.
