The Prince of Shadows Has Only the Best Intentions

In the 13th Age of the Dragon Empire, powerful factions wrestle to protect, dominate, or destroy the empire. These factions are led by extraordinary individuals known as icons. Perhaps the most mysterious icon is the Prince of Shadows. No one can agree on who he—or she—is. Or is the Prince even a single person at all? Regardless, most of the empire believes that the Prince of Shadows is selfish at best and malevolent at worse. Small groups of heroes know better.   The Prince of Shadows solves problems in a manner that the Emperor won't sanction. Yet the survival of the empire and its citizens takes precedence over imperial decrees. The Prince's Shadow Agents understand this. The Prince of Shadows has the empire's best interests in mind, but his methods are perplexing. The Agents may steal an aristocrat's statue one evening, then free a town from a siege by undead trolls the next.   Despite the Prince of Shadows' unusual requests, his Agents trust his judgment. They only hope that they'll return from each of his missions intact.
