The Sung Mountains

Between Sayinia and Mandoral lie the jagged Sung Mountains. It is not the tallest range known, nor the widest, but the terrain is brutal and difficult. They have been seen as protection for Sayinia from the inhuman demons (Rideis) in the east, but the difficult land has not always slowed Rideis invasion as it should.

The Superstitions

It could be argued that the locals to the Tendertooth Hills and other areas at the feet of the Sung Range are not superstitious, for their fears rise from documented historical events. Multiple invasions have left their mark up on the society and culture. Still, these precautions fall beyond the mere watchfulness for future invasions.   It is said that demons or Selks (Rideis) can appear anywhere near the mountains, regardless of weather. When storms make the range more treacherous than usual, they say demons can still appear on the western side of the mountain, unhindered by the weather or danger.   This region is also the source of the superstitious dislike of the color red, which has disseminated to lesser degrees over much of the rest of Sayinia. Here the dislike is much more specific than its iterations elsewhere: Locals say that red-haired children are the product of a union between a human woman and a demon/Selk man. It is said that such a pairing may be consensual or forced (but the mother is always suspected), but the offspring is always recognizable by red hair.   (Note: repuatable scholars note that such unions, if they happen, may not produce offspring at all. The Rideis do not bear live young but lay eggs, and it is unknown if Rideis and humans can successfully interbreed. However, this superstition arose long ago and has persisted for centuries, so scholars agree that whatever its origin or plausibility, it is key to understanding today's culture.)

Geography

The Sung Range are fold mountains, ancient and stable. Primarily sedimentary rock, with some metamorphic, is found in this range.

Tourism

It's an inhospitable and nearly impassible mountain range with nothing on the other side but a race of inhumans, generally called demons by the common folk, who have a history of unpredictably invading human territory. It's not a popular tourist destination.
