Sera Qadra

(Content warning: sexual exploitation)   The elite of the Rideis culture place a great deal of value on their history as mighty warriors who fought unimaginable beasts and preserved their own species as well as others. With the decline in warfare, this need for overt display of prowess, physical ability, and heroism has been transferred to another sort of conquest, and machismo and virility are characteristics to be prominently enshrined and paraded.   To this end the sera qadra was created. The sera qadra is a group assembled for and by each male of the ruling family and the highest noble houses, a visible metric of their master's prowess and ability. While quantity is certainly a measure of status—for any worthy male must be seen to be in demand—most nobles acknowledge a fine line between tasteful conspicuous consumption and gaudy exhibition. Quality is also a factor to be considered, so the members of the sera qadra are selected for beauty, and the Virilo is considered a special prize in this unspoken competition.   The sera qadra accompanies its master to formal events, dressed in their traditional costumes (rich with precious stones and metals), perfumed, and coiffed. They are on prominent display at banquets, seated in rows about him or leaning upon his legs and chair. To be a member of the sera qadra is to understand how to be a work of art as well as a pleasure servant.   Not all choose their sera qadra for physical pleasures; Kayvin, son of the seated emperor, allegedly selects the men and women of his sera qadra for musical ability, with instrument or with voice. Kayvin is also remarkable for his continued practice of magic, a tradition still valued by the Rideis but less strongly encouraged within the royal palace in modern times.
