Destiny Shards
Destiny Shards are strange crystal-like materials capable of extreme reality-altering powers. They are known to come directly from the pathway walked byGod-Destiny, or from the clothing and body of the entity Themself, but theologists and scholars differ on whether They let them fall willingly or if the event occurs naturally or accidentally. Regardless, the Destiny Shards have changed the history of the Planisphere in more ways than one can count.
For some reason, even if it’s known that other worlds exist in this universe, they only seem to fall on the Planisphere. Some theorize that getting to them was the only reason the Kevrêfnah invaded the Planisphere.
However, some historians of the Dark Empire claim that evidence suggests that the demons tried to use the Shards in places such as Hell or in parallel dimensions and universes, but they did not work there. If so, it’s unknown why exactly the Shards only work in the Planisphere. Those studies are highly debated, with some other sources claiming Shards do work in parallel realms of existence.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Shards look like diamonds or crystals, but their colors are bright and glowing. Usually they have a very vibrant single color, or they change constantly.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Shards can be easily held, but they are usually very sharp and sometimes heavy. Prolonged exposition to them is dangerous. They are not flammable.
Life & Expiration
Destiny Shards do not lose power or mass with time, nor does it deteriorate.
History & Usage
Discovery
It is debated when the Shards were first used. Some say their first wielder were the Sand-Elf peoples of Meteora, while others claim they were first discovered and used by the River Kingdoms in Eastern Cameland or by the indigenous tribes of northwestern Diponga.
Hazards
Shards can be extremely dangerous, both in direct usage and with their collateral effects. They can be used as weapons of mass destruction, capable of toppling entire nations, and are very radioactive. Some of them are able to warp reality in such a way that, in the wrong hands, the entire universe could collapse.
Throughout history, several ways have been found to use the Destiny Shards. Following is a concise list of the most typical ones:
- The easiest way is to hold the Shard and press it, releasing it’s raw power and energy. This is extremely dangerous, with risk of severely harming the wielder and surroundings, sometimes even radioactively.
- The historically most commonly used way is to observe the effects of the Shards and build an artifact in which they can be potentialized. The Solar Armor, the Morjhener Warhammer and the Beastbender are examples of this.
- There is also one type of spiritual/prophetic way of using the Shards, in which magical rituals and technology allow the wielder to focus the power of the Shard in a sort of prophetic way, such as the Maravio Bell and the Tarraschaeh Scriptures.
- When several Shards are owned, it is possible to harvest their power in an industrialized manner. Examples of this are the Kirk-Bridge and the Planispheric Purificator.
- Destiny Shards can also be used to open portals and gates between completely distant regions. Witches used Shards to build gates to Hell during the Great Sabbaths.
- The Orcs were created by genetic deformities caused by the effects of radiation in some of the Sand-Elves tribes who lived in Meteora. This radiation comes from the Primordial Destiny Shard, located in the Heart of Meteora.
- Shards were also used in the past to temporarily greatly enhance the effects of Rubryas, granting individuals who consumed them nearly divine-powers. The recipe for that has been, however, long lost, since the Lost Age.
Type
Metaphysical
Color
Usually bright white, but sometimes it can be bright green, blue, purple, or even multicolored, as if it was a rainbow.
Boiling / Condensation Point
To this date, no temperature has been able to boil or condensate a Shard.
Melting / Freezing Point
Evidence suggests that it is possible to melt or freeze Shards, but only outside the universe in which the Planisphere is located, and with dark magic or extremely advanced technology.
Common State
Shards are always solid, but can sometimes be transformed to a sort of spiritual state with special rituals.
