Piracy

"Pirates, they're the garbage of the sea. Don't even try to reason with one Just hope that they give quarter after stealing all your money."
— Average citizen's opinion.

Career

Qualifications

Piracy required the participants to have enough courage to want to rob ships on the sea.   Since many pirates were society's rejects it was easy to find those who had a chip in their shoulder against the land.

Payment & Reimbursement

Pirates are given a share of the treasure after a plundering course based on how well they fought or any other duties they performed during the trip.   Even pirates who fight badly can be paid well if they have a valuable non-combat skill such as navigation.

Perception

Purpose

Pirates rob other ships for valuables and cargo that they can sell, and funnel the profits into their own societies.   They wish to build a better life for themselves despite being garbage of the sea.

Social Status

Pirates are universally hated by many societies on land. Ironically, at the same time youngsters daydream about having adventures on pirate ships.   Pirates are considered criminals in all of the known mainlands, not withstanding the fact that many pirates were people driven to desperate measures in societies that wouldn't take them. Even if a pirate wasn't considered a criminal in their homeland, such as Chinese pirates being tolerated in old China, the other countries might see them as one.

Demographics

While the exact demographics vary, in Sky Archipelago most pirates are youths in their late teens until early thirties.   Before 1840, it was mainly men who took up the profession, and women came later.   The exact ethnic percentages of an average pirate crew in Sky Archipelago are unknown at this time.

History

Piracy, being robbery on the high seas, has existed as long as people had the means to travel on water.

Operations

Tools

Pirates need ships equipped with cannons, as well axes, swords, and miscellaneous infantry weapons to let them break and enter other ship cabins.   They would also need navigation tools like telescopes and compasses to figure out where they are.

Materials

Pirates need food, water, and medical supplies.

Workplace

Pirates usually stay on their ship during a plundering course and treat it as a second home.
