Okaigi Sea (oh-Ka-ye-gee)

Underneath its depths is the ruins of the harmonic era, before the great flood this was home to the earliest peoples. Now it is home of the Water fae and the Kingdom of Kai also known as the Land Boats. Normally boats with so much weight could not stay afloat on water but here the salty tears of the Divine being is buoyant enough to hold up an entire kingdom. One might wonder why live on a ocean of tears? Well this is the kingdom of Kai's apology to their Divine Being for humanity's insults that caused the great flood. What lies beneath these waves and within the ruins? The homes of water fae; Mermaids, Sirens, and Nerfai. Nerfai are fae made of the element of water completely. They have no social structure instead they exist fulfilling their needs and any order send down from Kai the Divine Being of Water. The Sirens are fae made by Kai and Abpromal God of Animals. They where meant to be humans who live in the water and worship only Kai, however instead a monster was created. Voice of angels to call humans into the sea and teeth of a shark to tare into their flesh. They live in a strength based social structure and make their homes in the ruins of the harmonic era. Finally The mermaids. Children born of human and siren. To appease Kai the Nerai gave humanity a message. To sacrifice 10 humans every year to the sirens. 5 would be devoured and 5 would receive a blessing. The blessing to live underwater where they would marry the strongest sirens. The result of these unions were the mermaids. Kai beloved children. All blessed by Kai. Mermaids build their own homes under the sea and keep Nerfai as pets. They are kind to the people of the Boat kingdom but cruel to all other humans.

What of the sea itself you might wonder? Well it surrounds all the known lands and no one has ever reached it's end. Every year though it shrinks just a little. The Narfai say that when all of the old ruins of the Harmonic era have been reveled then, and only then, Kai has forgiven mankind for their insult that had brought harmony to its end. However humanity is also warned that if they should continue to insult the gods another great flood will take

Geography

The largest body of water in the world home to may Salt water creatures and water fae. Not to far from many shores are villages and cities of the Kingdom of kai. The waters were once a normal set of oceans that where untied by the Kai's tears when the great flood occurred. This large body of dense salt water surrounds all of the known lands and is impossible to chart at this time. The only fresh water available is from rain, trade, or for the most desperate fresh water Narfai which can live in Okaigi. 

Beneath the waves are the ruins of the old world. Homes now claimed by coral and sirens, mountains who hide underwater caves, homes and small villages built by mermaids. The farther into the sea you go the larger and more terrifying the life inside become. Some sailor claim to have seen sirens the size of a whales. One mermaid said she saw a water dragon's nest when exploring for resources. However most of travel to deep never return to tell the tales of what hide in the lightless depths.

Ecosystem

While mostly like a normal sea there fish and plant life have evolved to handle the saltiness of the waters. Which is why fish caught there is never seasoned with salt and needs to be washed TWICE before using in human food. The apex predator of these waters would be the Sirens who eat fish, mermaid, and human alike whatever fits their fancy at the time. there thick skin and blubber making them hard to kill and their blessed voices making them hard to deny some humans being documented as happily jumping over board to their calls and fish swimming into their open mouths. All that live within the water are abnormally heavy some fish are seen eating rocks so they can stop themselves from floating to the surface against their wills, other fish are abnormally strong as they swim against the force of the water.

Ecosystem Cycles

Migrations of the sea life is not well known since often they go to far out for humans to follow however some species of fish are found in different coast lines depending on the time of year.

Localized Phenomena

The black line. There is a point that no human can get past and return from. The black line is called as such due to how the waters seem to suddenly turn black and once a boat enters it it cant return. At this point the water is less salty causing the boats that are designed for divine tears to sink. If one has a boat that can float on the black line it will sink on the normal water. Mermaids say that they can not reach the bottom of the black line. Nerfai say the black line is promise to humanity but wont tell them what the nature of that promise.

History

Once when the world was young there was more then one ocean and more then one land mass. This era was known as the era of harmony. All gods were worshiped as equals... Or were supposed to be. Over time humans failed to do that. Humans craved to only have good things happen. Humans found that they didn't see the gods as equals or parts of the same whole. Humans spread the energy of chaos into the balanced world and the god of chaos was born Alvaeno. Alvaeno planted the seeds of hate, doubt, and jealousy in Kai. "The mortals hate you." he would whisper in the divine one's ear, "they see you as a lesser god. Look at how they live on Dhara's earth. Breath Alzeh air, and warm themselves by Ea's fire. But with you they steal your fresh water and your fish with hardly a tribute." His words took hold on the elemental being and they went to Abpromal. The divine one begged for help creating their own human beneath the sea. Abpromal agreed and the Sirens where born. However, Alvaeno was not pleased by this and cursed the Sirens to crave flesh. So the sirens became the monsters of the sea devouring fisherman and anyone who hears their song. Naturally humanity came to fear the watery depths even more avoiding the sea and the dangers it holds. Alvaeno used this as proof to Kai that humanity will hate them forever. This shattered the divine one's heart and they wept and wept and wept. A 100 years they sobbed onto the land. causing the great flood. It took the combined efforts of all the gods to calm them and to dry up enough land for the surviving mortal to live on. The Okaigi Sea is what is left of Kai's tears.

Tourism

Most fear going to Okaigi as it's waters are infested in human hating Sirens. However when one does decide to visit the Kingdom of Boats that floats there are three paths they may take. 

Path one: Official Kingdom of Boats transport. the boats of Kai's loyal kingdom all hold a blessing that protects them from the depths and tell Sirens to leave them be. This is the safest way to travel but it is expensive for a normal person to try. Members' of merchant guilds often get a discount which is how they afford the trip but other than them only the rich get to visit Floating kingdom at sea. 

Path two: Pirates are worshipers of Kai as well and often has their blessing so they may safely sail. However, be warned though they may offer far cheep transport they are still pirates. Many who choose this rout end up as sacrifices to Sirens or robbed of all they have and left for dead.

Path three: this path is the most dangerous of them all. Some desperate people will try to get the gods blessing themselves and sail without help. Most people who try this fail to receive the blessing and their empty boats are taken by scrappers who find it adrift. 

For those who do make it safely across the waters they may be greeted by the unique and beautiful Kingdom of Boats. Some of these ships are even designed to house those who travel there for vacations but of course that is mainly only enjoyed by the rich. For the poor who take the other two methods... well they often end up joining the kingdom since it is far to dangerous to set sail again.
