The Transiper

The Transiper is a magic tool that allows writing and sending a letter or any type of writing across a great distance without any delay.

This tool is used solely by Mages, and invented in the year 6512 (about three hundred years ago) by Nicolème Architurt, a Magister from the Betel Kingdom.

The Inventor

Sir Architurt is probably the Mage who invented the most useful tools known to history. Especially on the matter of communication, his life obsession. In the Betel Kingdom, he had been named Magister and Master of Outside relations due to his knowledge. Before Sir Architurt, communication was really slow and difficult. He managed to invent the Voclais (communication by voice at a distance, which works up to a few kilometers), Fire signals that can be seen one country over, and finally, his masterpiece, The Transiper.

Principle and ways of operating the tool

The Transiper is a special paper infused with a very special kind of magic. The principle is simple: one person writes on his Transiper, and the message is automatically written on the Transpier who receives it. Of course, to be able to work, the Transiper must respect a few conditions:
  • The two persons who want to communicate must each have one Transiper linked to themselves
  • The two Transipers must be linked to each other, though several different links can be included in one Transiper
  • The Transiper must be set on a desk, a table top, or any open surface, and not to be covered by anything to be able to receive the magic of the words
  • The message will write itself after the last message of the page. If there is no more space, the message will erase what was written at the top of the page.
  • Only a Mage can use a Transiper. Since it has to be linked to one to work, only a Mage can own one. But anyone who sees it can read the messages on it.
  • Messages can be easily erased with a spell. Any Mage has the ability to erase a Transiper, but only the Mage who owns the Transiper can actually erase its own. Note: That hasn’t always been the case, but after a few trainees in several countries erased important words from eminent Mages, Sir Architurt added the feature.

    Usages

The magic technology behind the Transiper is complex and therefore expensive. It is a highly practical tool, still very few Mages own them. Mostly, those who do are Mages or Magister on a Monarch payroll. They themselves become communication tools for their Souverain who pay them greatly for their services. Some research facilities also own one Transiper, to be able to communicate with other facilities of their own countries, or the adjacent ones. But not all of them do.   Because of the rarity of the tool itself, very few Mages take the time to learn how to create one. Those who do are usually the one who later operates them.

    Derivatives and counterfeits

A few pale copies of this tool have appeared and disappeared through the years, but nothing that truly compared to the Transiper. For most of them, the paper didn’t let the owner erase anything, and they had to throw it every so often to buy a new one. Most people stopped buying counterfeits after a few decades and all these cheaper products stopped getting produced.
