Tovoch

Advancement Above All

No where else can a man go from nothing, to having more money and power than whole countries, than in Tovoch. But don't be fooled. The Decree might guarantee you a chance, that your birth or age or race won't stand in your way, but all that will leave is your own ability, drive and ambition to take you to the top. And you might be able to get the jump on those already there, as their eyes are to the Monolith, straining to see the peak. Would you shoot a man who's not looking!
Vari Calseth, Envoy - 2nd Class, Cartographer's Chapter, Expeditionary School.

A technological Leviathan dominating the horizon for thousands of miles. Built around the ancient artifact known as the Monolith, this Empire continues to spread and conquer all that might be in its way. Fueled by the many advances found within the Monolith, Tovoch is home to billions and is regarded with equal parts fear and awe from those outside and in. Adhering to the Decree of the Industrious Man, rights are recognized in all and are honored and kept by the Pillar Compliance and their ruthless Lawbringers, protecting the rights of those that cannot and equipping them to deal with the threat next time. And though these rights are secured society has a natural tendency to tilt towards corruption when the sums of money get large enough, and the Supercorps that dominate the economy play power games within Tovoch, fighting to secure the mythical pieces of Goa, with innocents often caught in the crossfire. And all the while, the source for this chaos and progress, the Monolith, stands unknown piercing the sky, with Tovoch in it's shadow.   Tovoch is a highly advance empire that seeks to spread out and conquer all, so a united mankind can achieve their full potential. The source for doing so is the giant artifact of unknown origin at the centre of it's capital city, Gazenthuun. This artifact is known by all in Tovoch as the Monolith, the immensely tall spire splitting the sky with dark flawless metal. Seeming to absorb the sun, not reflect it, many say that it seems to pull your gaze to it's surface, with it's highest point lost in the blue haze of the sky. The early Tovochians had some means of connecting with this structure and received knowledge from it, enabling a rapid advance within Tovochian society. In modern Tovoch this is instead handled by the Over and corporations who hoard the knowledge for themselves.

Culture

The native born Tovochians have an intense reverence to the Monolith, having heard the stories pass down of how their ancestors were dragged from the dirt, taught great secrets by the Monolith and fought back their aggressors. And this   O-Link, a link between your MVC(Mescatite-Volodinium Cortex) and the Over. Most things have a connection to the Over and utilize augmented projection to appear in the person's vision as though it where in real space. For example, as you saw an advertisement for fast food, you would also see nutritional value and the direction to the nearest place to get it. Evrything can have an Over-Enabled element, such as purchases or terminal interaction. A touchpad can be shown to you, though no one else can see it and your MVC will register touches out of thin air when they correspond with the augmented projection keyboard. The O-link can fail in some cases and this can either bring feelings of horror or joy depending on the person, with the world feeling more real. Other links include, the T-Link for connections with the silver trees and Teros, the T-Link houses your Second Identification (SI). Also the M-Link which is the TDF's own communications network.   Few aspects of ancient Tovochian culture remain though the National sport Grogiri is a notable exception. Another aspect that has survived is regarding funerals.  A large funeral drum called a Zosu is used by the eldest surviving male relation to start a drum beat, which is taken up by smaller drums called Itego used by the rest of the immediate family. If the rest of the family is less than four, it is considered an honor to be asked by the family to use the Itego with them.  The Zosu starts the beat and controls the song. And the Itego accompany while also starting a chant that normally follows the beat. The rest of the funeral goers join in and pour out their emotions to propel the deceased into the afterlife with a fanfare.  These beats often are passed down from amoung the ancient tribes that formed the initial Tovochian empire. So around 64.  The TDF have their own. As casualties are so rare, it was a big occasion and thousands attended with everyone having Zosu and Itego. Also no one wears rankings as the most noble is the deceased for giving their life.
