Emily Doyle
Emily Doyle (a.k.a. White Witch)
Emily Doyle was born in the year 2009 as Emily Cooper. She grew up in the Southern United States. Her parents made enough money that they never worried about having a home or feeding their family, but they never made enough money to buy the newest cars and phones and computers. Emily's life was best described as average. Until a few weeks after her eleventh birthday, that is. Though others had started manifesting special abilities, the world had yet to realize the coming changes or spread news of the appearance of strange powers. When Emily manifested hers a short while after her birthday, she was alone. Nobody was there when she disappeared from her room, and nobody saw when she reappeared in the tree outside her window. Emily had to figure out on her own how to control her powers, and what they were really capable of.
Throughout her teenage years, Emily learned to use her powers. She realized that not only could she seemingly teleport herself anywhere she could see, she could also move objects around the same way. However, sometimes the things she moved changed when she moved them. A piece of paper might be crushed or torn. A paper cup might have more or less water in it, or the cup itself might have changed color. By the time Emily finished high school, she had even learned to control this part of her powers. For several years now the news was filled more and more with headlines about the Empowered - the term coined to describe people like her. Although many of the stories were about crimes - robberies and attacks and other horrible things - there were some stories about people with powers like her helping people. Once Emily graduated, she decided that she wanted to be like them.
Emily started wandering the world, searching for others like her. Over time she gained many friends, and even helped younger Empowered learn to control their own abilities. By the time the International Ability Regulation Organization was formed, Emily had a following of heroes. They spread across the country, then the globe, performing feats straight out of legend. When the IARO filled the news with reports of stalled investigations and unsolved crimes, Emily and her friends decided to do something about it. Soon, they were stopping crimes faster than the IARO could even respond to them. When the IARO began looking for the new heroes, they started wearing costumes and masks to hide their identities, dodging IARO agents at every turn. When the heroes finally "turned themselves in," the people of the world trusted them far more than the ineffective IARO.
Emily decided that helping the IARO would bring more good to the world than resisting them, and began a decades-long tradition of cooperation between the heroes of the world and the governments trying to regulate them. The criminals that had been running amok in the world were pushed back into the shadows, many of them captured and imprisoned. With the results brought in by the heroes, the IARO had no choice but to agree when the heroes proposed this: with the permission of the IARO, the heroes would create a [League of Heroes], recruiting young men and women to continue fighting against crime. The heroes would allow the IARO to regulate their activities, setting rules for the heroes to follow. At the insistence of the IARO, the League of Heroes agreed to place their first headquarters in Luceat. They chose Emily as their leader, and she personally helped set up their new home base.
Emily led the League of Heroes for several years. At first, the League had a mixed reception from the people. Many people were still uncertain about the heroes. When the League moved in, many of the Empowered followed, hoping to fit in better in a city protected others like them. However, many of the Empowered criminals took this as an opportunity to disappear, the skyrocketing population of Empowered in Luceat helping them blend in. At first the citizens were scared, as the number of Empowered crimes jumped. The League quickly gained their trust by handling these incidents swiftly and cleanly. The League was soon an integral part of the city of Luceat.
Emily spent several years leading the League, preventing crime and helping with accidents and natural disasters. Although she greatly enjoyed her work, it was only a matter of time until something else became more important to her. This time came when she met [Harold Doyle], the man that would become her husband. A normal man with no powers, Harold moved to Luceat several years prior. The two fell in love, marrying in the year 2032. Emily continued working with the League for a little over a year, but withdrew from active duty when she discovered she was pregnant with her first child. Evan Doyle was born nine months later, and five years after that Emily had a daughter, [Jane Doyle].
Though Emily had stopped actively responding to crimes and most other incidents, she remained a constant adviser to the League of Heroes. One day, there was a huge disaster in the city. A gas main ruptured, partially collapsing several buildings. The heroes responded in droves, but the scale of the disaster meant they were severely understaffed. One of the new leaders of the League called Emily in as a favor, knowing that here strength and experience would be of great value. Emily was reluctant to leave her family, but was determined to help her people. Emily was in the midst of the rubble, helping pull people to safety, when there was second explosion. For a split second, there was pandemonium, but inexplicably the blast stopped and seemed to disappear. Relatively few lives were lost in the second explosion, but Emily was never seen again. The other heroes combed the rubble to no avail, and after a few weeks passed she was assumed to be dead.
Despite her life being cut short, Emily Doyle made an incredible impact on the world. Without her, the Empowered could have been ostracized from society. Instead, many of them live normal lives. Emily was a great woman who did great things for the world.
