The Northern Kingdoms
1357
The Northern Kingdoms are in a period of turmoil.
The royal family of Dalkaith has recently been killed by a suspicious plague along with much of the rest of the population of Kaithsport, the capital. The power vacuum caused by the royal deaths has caused a rise in lawlessness caused both by opportunistic nobility and commoners alike.
The Council of Lords named Lady Brenna as Queen following a narrow passing vote, this has caused a rift in the Kingdom. Others look towards the kingdom sensing its weakness. There are rumours that the Orcs and Giants are massing for another attack on Garthun's Wall.
The Archdruids of Ciorsdan have foreseen a terrible catastrophe befalling the lands and have sent emissaries to the neighbouring nations to spread the word and try and bring the nations and peoples together in a time of strife.
Prakia has been beset by years of rain, causing the once fertile lands to turn to mire and bog. There are rumours that the dead have been rising from the sodden graves on mass, though these are just rumours of course…
Having recently conquered the kingdom of Kaldova, Trocaria has been supporting the nobility of Prakia with supplies and support in their time of hardship. The Priests of the Two Divines bring relief and support to their new neighbour. Isn't it good to see some altruism in the world?
However, the annexation has raised tensions with Cairland, who are strengthening their military, and nourishing their relations with the surrounding nations. Calling on mercenaries and political favours to gain support, should a war with Trocaria begin.
The dwarves of Torland have been closing themselves off from the troubles of their beleaguered neighbours, why should they have to suffer for the folly of other nations?
The people of Rosgard have always had unsteady relations with Dalkaith. In recent years, with the outlawing of raids on Dalkaith settlements, the animosity between the nations have improved. Perhaps the reason for this shift in attitude is due to the increased pressure of attacks from Cachra to the north, the nation now focusing on its northern border.
