The Dalar plant is a
Medicinal Herb that grows only in the
Blue River on the
Sutbourne Isle. A bizarre small plant that fastens itself on rocks at a particular depth in the river. Though they use to only grow naturally, over time, the people have discovered ways to plant them and nurture them. It is a black plant that blends into the rocks in the river and on the riverbed almost its whole life. However, when the plant is ready to bloom, one and only one night a flower bud opens up and glows an eerily green light but dies when day arrives. It is at this time that it can be picked and harvested.
The Dalareens, as they are known, are those that seek out this plant up and down the river each night. They have the expertise to not only find the plant, but quickly and carefully extract the essence and seeds from the flower and store them in various bottles to be processed back in
Sutbourne.
The extract from this flower appears to heal many kinds of illnesses. Even if it is not known to heal specific ones, it is still a primary ingredient by the physicians. Those skilled in potion making and elixir brewing refine this extract in
Sutbourne and sell it to the kingdoms around Nordhavyn.
The seeds are used in a variety of dry mixtures, but care is taken to preserve some for replanting along the river. The Dalareens have come to an agreement on who controls various sections and branches of the river in order to insure a proper harvest and proper incomes maintained.
