The Ninth World

You are a denizen of this planet known as Earth. The past billion years have seen eight great civilizations (or worlds) rise and fall upon the face of this planet. They have long since passed, leaving their ruins and other remnants scattered across the singlar, vast supercontinent and even into the reaches of sea and space. Perhaps other dimensions as well, who can really be sure? You are a part of a newer, rather fledgling civilization by comparison of time, one just beginning to rise from the ashes of the old, known colloquially as the Ninth World. Here you dwell among the flotsam and jetsam of the ultratech left behind from those prior ages—technology so impossible and advanced that many see it as inseparable from magic. This technology is known as the numenera. Your mission is to uncover the mysteries behind the numenera and learn to utilize them, hopefully to create a better world.
