Journey to Othala - Chapter 3A
This article follows the green path from the Mannaz Tribe, to the Othala Tribe. (Shown under Story Anchor 2)
Wilds of Asgard
The first section players will walk through is a forested area between the village and the mountains. Use this journey as an opportunity to encourage roleplay, using Rothar as a conversation starter if wanted. There is no planned encounter for this portion of the journey. Use the Weather Table and the Open Land Encounter Table for random encounters and roleplaying hooks. It will take approximately 1 full day on foot to reach the next area with no major interruptions.Cloudcap Mountain Pass
The next section of the path has increased dangers. Roll for weather upon entering the mountains and every day they spend in the mountains, and add 15 to the result to simulate more turbulent weather. There is also a planned encounter for this section: Cave Trolls. Begin this encounter the first night players spend in the mountains. Do not roll for random encounters while traveling through the mountains. You may choose to have the players roll to notice that they are being stalked by the trolls during the course of the day. When players choose to rest for the night, it is important to ask if they are taking watches and to ask what they are doing with their belongings. It will take approximately 1 and a half days to complete this section of the journey with no interruptions. If the players choose to rest during the planned encounter, extend this to two full days (or more if appropriate).Foothills
Once out of the mountains, players will have to trek across a series of hilly plains before reaching the southern passage. You may roll for weather and random encounters here if so desired. Once the players have traveld for a time, they will stumble across a set of Old Aesir ruins. This main thing players will notice about the ruins, especially from afar, is the presence of smoke from a campfire. This portion of the continent used to be dedicated as the transport district, where travelers of the bi-frost, merchants on starships, and domestic tourists would arrive and depart from here. The ruins the players discover are what's preseved of an old Bi-frost terminal. It is laid out as a courtyard with gates distributed across both sides. All of the gates except one are in disrepair and appear to be unfunctioning (GM Secret). Aged skeletons and scattered bones of the Old Aesir can be found sparingly in some portions of the ruins. On one end of the courtyard is a dilapidated customs building. The roof is caved in and most of the walls have toppled, but portions of it remain intact. Within what's left of the building, a small primitive shelter has been erected and a small fire continues to burn with a skewer of meat resting on it. On the opposite side of the shelter are two corpses tied to an old support beam. One is a partially rotted troll carcass, and another is a humanoid. The latter is mostly decayed and has no recognizable features aside from it's clothing. Not far from the campsite is an office area that someone has converted into a workspace. An empty silver briefcase, writing utensils, an empty glass vial (identical to the one found in the troll cave), as well as scattered papers with Alven writing rests on the table. The campsite and the workspace appear to have been recently ransacked. You may choose to have exceptionally perceptive players notice small signs of Lokindras' presence as he attempts to flee the scene. Various Perception and History checks to examine scene and gather info Loot: d 1d10 ammunition for ballistic wpns.Southern Passage
The fourth portion of this trip will take place over the waters of the southern passage. There is a planned encounter for this portion: The Ferryman Encounter. When players step onto the ferry, announce that it begins to rain. By the time the players are partway across the passage, the rain will have increased to a heavy downpour.Othala Tribe Island
For the final section, you may choose to do another roll for weather and random encounters before players arrive at the final destination, or you may have them arrive immediately.
