Aurora Festival

History

The arctic wolf packs view the aurora lights as a sign from their gods that they are still watching over them. The arctic wolf packs celebrate the aurora lights nearly every night they appear. Despite the hardships, they face they will feast on such a night even if they know tomorrow they will starve. Not celebrating the aurora lights is seen as inviting bad fortune upon oneself and the pack.

Components and tools

Food and lots of it! Arctic Wolves will store food from previous kills in the deepest and coldest snowbanks and then dig them up later to celebrate on the night of aurora lights. They have to guard these food banks against other predators like polar bears, glacier bears, arctic foxes, and other wolf packs. Another feast this time of fish will be freshly caught the morning after the aurora lights. The leftover fish will be used to restore the food taken from the food banks.

Participants

All members of the pack are expected to participate. While not everyone must glutton themselves, they are expected to eat more than their usual share of food.   There are no roles for this festival other than the ones already formed in the pack. The Alpha pair will announce the beginning of the festival and the ending.    If there is a Seer within the pack, they are typically asked very often when the next festival will be, something they can't answer except for a few days in advance after watching the night skies. Seers will stay up during the night to watch for little aurora lights flickering which begins to appear before a full-blown aurora belt though this does not always happen. Giving a wrong prediction is much worse than giving no prediction at all. Giving too many wrong predictions or no predictions will see a wolf removed from the position.
