First Meeting

General Summary

September 7th, 1266 EoH

From the Journal of Light in the Morning   It's been one year since me and my new family stopped an attack in our beloved city by a band of zombies lead by a dread ghoul. I've stayed outside of Baezwar since then just in case this happened again. Daily I checked for more undead in the area finding not a trace of them. I've went back into the city on occasion to visit family and to help feed some of the poor who dwell there. I know that Fez has continued his training in that year, and it shows. I have not seen Thalla’kek much though as her journey's to the city are as infrequent as mine. I wish I could figure out why this attack by the dead just seems to be forgotten. I know that there must have been more behind this attack, but I can't figure out what. Maybe I'm just being paranoid about it.   One year to the day and we are going to meet up for a celebration of our victory. I was the first to arrive at the small room in the Jade Blade Tavern that night where I met a storyteller called Jasriel, a flamboyantly dressed halfling who could weave a good tale. After writing a few of these down my little brother Fez arrived. We were still waiting on a few others and decided to play darts with Jez. Fez and me both had a strange feeling about the halfling, but we decided to play the game anyway. After taking a few shots I was not feeling good (I will never drink alcohol ever again). Seritea then arrived, and lit up the room with her charisma. She joined the game and proved to be an expert at throwing the darts, even throwing one over her shoulder and hitting the target!   After a few rounds of this the halfling disappeared into a crowd that had gathered. I should have sensed what these cloaked figures were, but the drink had dulled my senses. Within mere moments they were upon us, swinging their black taloned hands at us. One of them yelled out in a gravelly voice that "we would see the mistress whether we wanted too or not!" We picked not, as we tore into their undead flesh. I figured out that they were ghouls too late as Seritea and myself were paralyzed by there grey rotting hands. If not for Fez and his volley of blows we would surely have been taken to this "Mistress".   * * *   After the ghouls were all defeated we found out the door had been locked and we could not get it open. We found a well used door behind the bar. Before we left here we searched the ghouls for any hint of who they were actually working for. Each one of them had a tattoo of an eye on their forehead (we need to look into this symbol later) and not much more except for their mismatched clothes.   We made our way down the steps under the bar door and found the bartender talking to himself in front of a large table. We found out that he took money to make sure we were in that room and not able to escape. This human is a despicable individual, but may be useful to us in the future. After a few moments of him groveling to us we had him lead us out of the never ending maze of boxes and barrels.   Once we were on the surface we were greeted by the Gladiator Arena. There we decided to check on a club that we found behind the bar, and to go and gather up some small weapons that we could get away with carrying in the city. I need to remember to have Fez show me his fighting techniques when we get time to sit back and relax (they would definitely enhance my claw attacks). I'll also talk to some of my friends who live in the streets and see what they know of that backstabbing halfling. Then we will look into the Arena and see what we can find out their. Hopefully Thallakek and Cony will be able to join us as their expertise with weapons would come in handy.
