Todan Gnomes

Toda is found in the Setraas Highlands, a detour on the route from Xathe through the mountains to the dock city of Oaken. Toda is nestled among the mountain peaks, suspended in the air on a giant rotating platform, a gigantic clockwork machine that the Todans built millennia ago, and continues to function to this day. The giant clockwork platform rests on gigantic, ancestral chains of the sturdiest metal on the face of Exandria, adamantine. Combined with magic and gnome engineering, these chains remain amongst the strongest bindings this side of the world, and they are used to suspend the city of Toda and all of its inhabitants in the air, above a chasm. Though, gnomes are always cautious, in combination with their need to tinker, they have built in safety lifting mechanisms on the underside of the giant disc. Due to being limited to the diameter of the clockwork disc Toda rests on, recently the citizens have had to devise other ways to accommodate the increasing population of the city. Additional floating discs, though much much smaller in comparison to the main disc, now float in correspondence with particular districts and hover above their designated district, even when they change. The districts on the main disc change only ever 4 hours, so the gnomes have built many small tracking devices to help people plan their schedules and connect what districts, markets, shops, services are going to be near their home at the time they set out to do errands.    Their home is not the only technological advancements the Todan Gnomes have made. The vast majority of goods coming out of Toda are magical, tiny clockwork trinkets. Music boxes and clocks and kitchen timers and wind up toys, the Todan Gnomes have perfected the art of semi-useful clockwork trinket production. Other enterprising gnomes have specialized in type of mechanisms, propulsion, lift, navigation, time keeping, finance keeping, magical methods of completing chores around the house. Any aspect of life you can think of, a gnome in Toda has probably tried to make an invention for it. There's even rumors that some of the more, let's say dedicated gnomes have helped the king's men design new weapons. Clockwork magic enhanced weaponry would prove deadly against any enemies, which the kingdom doesn't currently have too many. But with the attack on Areceldo, the rising of the thieves' guilds in the North and South, and other strange happenings, the crown is thankful for these improvements and might find usage for them soon.
