Research Site O-51 Myth in The Necro-Industrial Complex | World Anvil

Research Site O-51

The walls crawled, stone pulsing like infected flesh. Parts of the structure was warping, fractal patterns of stone rising from the ground and walls, hanging defiant against gravity. Lily pushed a one of the fragile-looking spires and watched it collapse sideways, sucked into the corridor. It slammed against the heavy doors at the far end, hard enough to embed themselves into the metal.   "And this is outside the containment chamber?" She looked at the Vostrovi patriach. "What's it like inside?"   "Worse than you can imagine." He replied.
One of the long-rumored secrets ofthe Vostor School for Necromantic Advancement, Research Site O-51 is located far from school grounds. Nestled into a glade and surrounded by barbed wire and machinegun nests, O-51 has become one of the most important research sites in perhaps the entire world. Inside, poked and prodded by magicians without a clue what they have caged, is a fragment of a cosmic predator known as the Occultarum. Drawn to the world by the emergance of magic, these creatures are vast and powerful beyond reckoning, hungry for human souls. They're kept from devouring the world whole only by the wall between dimensions that seperates the mortal planes from their home.   Though the scientists of O-51 don't know it yet, the Occultarum have already begun to warp the world through the sheer gravity of their presence, even across the veil. The physical manifestation of one, no matter how small and no matter how bound within cages of iron and electricity, is an ill omen for the future of mankind.   The fragment they have is of the Occultarum designated as 'The Worm that Devours', and how they got it, only the the Vostrovi Clan elders know for sure. Where they once sought profit from it, now panic has started to set in.

That's absolutely terrifying! And I guess they cannot destroy the bit that they have?

Nope - they're still figuring out how to affect the Occultarum at all! Which I'm sure will be a thrilling high point in the book ;D

Do I remember correctly that Occultarum couldn't be seen with a human eye? Did the Vostrovi Clan use some kind of special devices to even detect what they've caught?

Usually the Occultarum is in another dimension, and that's why they can't be seen. This is a part that slipped through! >:D

Yikes. This seems like... a not good idea.
