Tenge

Tenge Kaedermos

"Won't anyone see reason here?!"
Tenge is an introverted, grumpy, bespectacled Demshul-Morphid half-breed who lives alone in the woods, only visited by his brother Astyr. He is extremely meticulous and organized and can accomplish many things with his powers of duplication. Tenge prefers to use his powers for quiet mundane activities, content without a life of adventure.

Abilities:

  • Duplication: Tenge is half-Morphid, and has the ability to split off an indeterminate amount of copies of himself. Copies of Tenge share his memories up to the time of his split, but afterwards have no shared thoughts or experiences until they remerge with one another. (Note: There is no "real" or "fake" Tenge)
  • Rubric Writing: Tenge is a strong essence manipulator but very meticulous, and he needs a lot of time to set things up. He prefers to work through rubrics as opposed to direct manipulation.

Relationship Approach

Tenge is extremely socially awkward and has no friends outsite who he's met through Astyr (and the recent Kanite invasion of his house). Though he is often snappy and abrasive around his family, public situations find him quiet and highly anxious. He hasn't met enough people to develop too many romantic preferences, but seems to get very flustered around Rana.

Physical Description

Body Features

Tenge has an uncannily strong resemblance to a Morphid, and without his glasses looks almost identical. Though not as bad as Cioara, when his essence levels are thrown into imbalance, he develops red fissures on his skin like a Morphid.

Apparel & Accessories

Tenge has a pair of Demshul wings, with medium-brown dactyls and light-brown patagium. His wrist covering preference is typically long-sleeved sweaters or shirts. Though his eyesight is fine, he sports a pair of glasses because it makes him feel different-looking from Morphids.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Tenge was born in the Conclave with his two siblings Cioara and Astyr. The parents assigned to him were Pleinar and Saode. Ever since escaping the Conclave, he has been living in the forest of various Outpost worlds in solitude.

Education

Tenge is very academically inclined, and his ability to split into duplicates allow him to study many subjects in a short amount of time. He is very well-read and intelligent.

Employment

Tenge does freelance Rubric writing under the employment of the Korsica family.

History

Tenge would never admit it, but his younger brother Astyr knows him better than anyone. Unfortunately, this also includes every possible way to annoy him.
Astyr and Tenge grew up together in the Conclave as a family unit. Though Tenge found Astyr mildly annoying as a little brother, Astyr was always impressed and complimentary of Tenge and persistent in trying to get Tenge to like him and Tenge secretly appreciated being looked up to. Astyr was occassionaly a point of rivalry between Tenge and Cioara.

When the siblings escaped, Tenge quickly discovered that traveling from world to world was very stressful to him, and opted to stay in one place. Astyr visited occasionally before, but once Sydney and Rana became his traveling companions, he stopped by more often to take breathers in between worlds.

Astyr's visit after Tirani was largely uneventful, though Tenge blamed Astyr for letting the portagrue be corrupted and demanded he go into town to see Lydia Korsica to fix it. After Astyr's return from Goddessflight with a Wingbucks full of Morphids, we learn that Astyr regards the Morphids as Tenge's father and has been hoping to reconcile them. Tenge refuses to accept that the Morphids might have feelings or be able to be talked with, and becomes high-key panicked when the Morphid that Astyr brought with him had escaped and sends Astyr to look for him. While Tenge is working to find the Morphid, he also becomes alarmed when Astyr mentions that Rana scanned his essence with QOIN and sent information to the Queen's Consulate, and believes that it's only a matter of time before Astyr's actions attract unwanted attention from the Demshul government. When Astyr leaves the house to look for Sydney (and they do exactly that), Tenge attempts to help Astyr by communicating through the Weave of the world and pinpointing an essence manipulation field that may contain a back door for Astyr to use to leave the world in Lydia's manufactory. Neither brother is aware of what happened to the other after this, and they have not had communication since.

Physical Interations

Like most Demshul, Tenge has a lot of blind spots when turning and looking over his shoulder. So if you want to be really annoying, you hang out on people's shoulders. Astyr wants to be really annoying a lot.

When Tenge has lost his temper with Astyr, he will often physically grab and move Astyr elsewhere (usually with multiple copies) and/or throw him around.

Social Interations

Tenge takes his role of the responsible older sibling of Astyr very seriously, and has an opinion and lecture about all the dangerous things Astyr chooses to do. Astyr doesn't often take them too personally, and feels pity for the boring life that Tenge leads. Astyr knows that Tenge's greatest fears are losing control of his Morphid nature and others discovering it, and it paralyzes him. Astyr cares for his brother a lot, and would do anything to show him there are things to see and do on the outside. Unfortunately, the reasons that Astyr enjoys traveling just cause more fear in Tenge.

Tenge has a very reactive personality, taking action only when put in a position when he needs to. It's usually Astyr's actions that will provide the catalyst for their interactions. Tenge can usually tell when Astyr is trying to rile him up to take action, and will usually restrain himself to lecturing Astyr about being more responsible.

Astyr does not deal with problems responsibly or rationally, preferring to pretend they're not problems at all around other people. Growing up, Tenge is the only person Astyr is fully comfortable confiding in. And after a bit of grumbling, Tenge usually comes through for Astyr if he can.

Astyr loves to talk about everything he's done while world-hopping. It's Astyr's way of trying to inspire Tenge to leave his house once in a while. Tenge is information-absorbant by nature and can't help but be a little curious by Astyr's stories. Just a little.

Tenge has some basic fears about Astyr's antics (especially in relation to protecting Rana), but will begrudingly admit that he's competent. If only he would grow up a little.

History

Rana's kindness is unlike anything Tenge's ever experienced. Maybe the only kindness?
Tenge and Rana met when Astyr brought Rana to Tenge's house. As so often the case with Rana, her kind and compassionate nature captivated Tenge, and his social anxiety was obliterated.

When Rana sees Tenge without his glasses, she notes his similarity to the Morphid she had seen on Goddessflight, and he admits that he is half-Morphid and views himself as dangerous. A particularly heartwarming hug and reassurance from Rana that she trusts him despite his Morphid heritage.

As dangers mount not only from Morphid invasion but the Queen's Consulate, Tenge begins to grow skeptical of Rana's trust in others, eventually trying to cut her ties to her friends and keep her locked in her workshop for her own protection. This backfires, and Rana pushes Tengeaway with some strong words about how he doesn't listen or trust anyone else. Hurt and stunned, Tenge is left to contemplate Rana's criticism. How their relationship will pick up should they see one another again is yet to be seen.

Physical Interations

Tenge tends to split off more when he's dealing with difficult situations. There's a power in physically/psychologically making yourself bigger in a space. One indication about his level of affection for Rana is that he "consolidates" around her; it's an act of trust for him to interact one-on-one.

Rana's base level of touch/holding focuses on the chest area when she interacts with Tenge.

Social Interations

A lot of Tenge and Rana's socializing happens over the workbench. Since Tenge has been able to study many things with his duplication abilities, he's actually got enough mechanical knowledge to be a help, and Rana appreciates the more advanced shop talk that she can't have with Sydney or Astyr.

Tenge feels a compulsion towards control with Rana as his form of protecting her. This makes Rana more guarded with Tenge than she is with Astyr or Sydney, who respect her desire for freedom and fear of being trapped again.

Tenge is also hungry for social interaction in a way that Rana is not. He fixates on her to some extent because she's one of the only positive relationships and breaks in monotony he's comfortable with. Maybe he just needs to get out more...

History

Tenge and Cioara disagree on everything except the opinion that they should stay far away from each other at all times. Astyr cares about them both and this makes him sad.
Cioara and Tenge were raised together in the Conclave from their youth. They had a nearly-constant rivalry, and only sort of got along growing up because of their mutual appreciation for Astyr. Upon their escape from the Conclave, Tenge and Cioara clashed a lot about what to do and were happy to go their separate ways.   When Cioara tried to help Astyr and Sydney escape the prison at Dias Korgan and was captured herself, DarkTenge kidnapped her and brought her to Hannah's studio. When Cioara pumped DarkTenge for answers about his role in the Conclave and why he stayed behind, their past disagreements immediately reignited, and Cioara narrowly escaped his grasp by using her Morphid shapeshifting powers on herself to cut her ropes and later to transform Vuudo into looking like her.
