The falling city

The city on the edge to the abyss

Everything else around it has fallen. Nothing is left, except this last city. The only thing keeping it from crumbling down is a slumbering goddess, whose powers are just enough. The sun looks further away than ever, and the abyss darkness comes closer. And yet, the people of the falling city live. They survived the great war, they managed to escape the grasp of the abyss, and now they live in peace. A peace that threatens to not hold. Because despite losing everything, the people can't forget their differences. Can't admit both sides were in the wrong. The city is divided and on the edge of its own demise.

Demographics

All the previous ethnicities of the world can be found in the city

Government

The city is ruled by the previous upper class. Taking residence in the city's center, they look down on the rest of the population. Their own private police forces only keep the population in check to protect them. They also make sure food production and other manufacturing continue.

Defences

The city is divided into a few different sections, separated by walls. They're mostly open, but the closer to the middle you come the stricter the access becomes. There are however four walkways made to allow access to Hearts park from the lower layers. This is heavily guarded, and the uppermost layers don't have a way onto or from the walkway, instead, they have their own entrances to the park.

Infrastructure

The streets of the falling city are mostly made from stone, although in some of the lower layers still not fallen you fins dirt streets. Getting from one place to another is usually done by walking, or possibly riding a bike if you can afford. Cars are practically nonexistent. The houses range from the simple shack made from scrap material to beautiful buildings made of stone. The most common houses are the brick buildings of the middle districts, with apartments of different sizes. All parks have been converted into farmlands to have enough space to feed the population, and most roofs have small plots of growth. Water is collected from the few rainfalls the goddess manages to provide and recycled as much as possible. Along the edges of the city, there are a few wind power plants, supplying just enough power for the streetlamps and the upper classes.

Guilds and Factions

The sides from the great war are still very much present, dividing the city. Most refrain from openly showing what side they support, but almost everyone has one. The rulers try their best to suppress the factions but have only managed to keep the divide of the streets into the shadows.

History

Most records of how the city was before the war have been lost, not that anyone really cares. The only thing left in the publics memory was the war. What was before doesn't matter, as it is no more.

Geography

An almost completely flat area, surrounded by the abyss. There are only a few areas not claimed by streets and buildings, and those are usually right on the edge or halfway down into the darkness below.

Natural Resources

The city has to work with what it has, recycling almost all materials from ruins and abandoned objects. The previous parks have all been converted to farmland, except Hearts park in the middle of the city.
