Floofy Dragons
The deceivers
I'm telling you, don't let those creatures deceive you! They're not to be messed with. True works of evil I say!
Folklore
It is commonly thought that the Floofy Dragons, sometimes simply called Floofs, are deceiving creatures, bringing bad luck and causing accidents wherever they go. Exactly how they are associated with evil differs depending on who you ask, but the most popular theories are that either they're created by demons, or are demons themselves.Sightings
Whenever a big accident happens, you can always find several eyewitness accounts of Floofy Dragons moving in the area just before or after the incident. They don't seem to take an active part in what happens, but the countless connections have made people certain they cause it. The most famous example was the assassination of King George the Third. A substantial amount of both guards and civilians had spotted a Floofy Dragon walking along the castle wall. When guards tried to chase it away it seemed to disappear into thin air, moments before the news of the King's assassination came out.Shapeshifting
Due to their many different sizes and ability to move around unnoticed, it's been rumored that the Floofy Dragons have the ability to shapeshift. Even if no reliable eyewitness has claimed to see one change form, it is now an accepted truth.Feathers
Despite the belief that Floofy Dragons bring bad luck, finding a feather from one is considered to bring you good fortune. Its color decides what kind of luck it brings. A black or grey feather protects against evil forces while a brown feather brings good health. If it has the lighter brown tip it is said to bring material wealth instead. Giving a feather you've found to another person is seen as a huge gesture of goodwill, whether it be to a friend, family member or romantic partner. There have been attempts by less superstitious people to hunt the Floofy Dragons and sell the feathers, but there is no evidence that anyone has succeeded in hitting one.Physical characteristics
The Floofy Dragons are of varying size, with a height from about 25cm up to 45cm. Their brown colors help them blend into most environments.Bodyshape
All Floofy Dragons are feathered, four-legged creatures with a set of wings and a tail. At the end of the tail you can find a collection of longer feathers, sometimes called a tail poof, which can both be unfolded and used to steer while flying as well as being a great pillow. An adult Floofy Dragon can be anywhere from 25 up to 45cm in height and 90 to 170cm long including the tail.Bones and muscle structure
Underneath their feather coat, the Floofy Dragons are much thinner than you may think. This allows them to fit through small gaps or holes in a similar way to mice. Their largest muscles are found in the Floofy Dragons wings. Another notable trait is the hollow bones, reducing the overall weight of down making flight easier. To compensate for the resulting more common fractures their blood can harden around the fractured bone to make a sort of makeshift cast. Their healing is also quicker than it is for most animals.Colouring
The feathers of males and females are fairly similar in markings, the main difference being that the males have a light grey on their backs and a darker brown than the females. Both sexes have a light stripe going from their eyes, across the cheek and ending by the neck. A stripe of the same color runs along their wings, with two black stripes at the end of each wing. The black stripes are usually visible even when the wings are folded up. Their light stomach and paws make the Floofy Dragons harder to spot while flying against a bright sky.Behaviour
The Floofy Dragons are curious creatures, often drawn to busy places. They find humans fascinating, even though they've had to be more careful around them recently. They have close ties with their pack, and usually get along with others from their species.Intelligence
Floofy Dragons seem to possess an intelligence that lets them both plan and communicate ideas with others of their species. Exactly how far it goes is unclear, but they have outsmarted most other animals they've come in contact with, even some humans.Communication
The Floofy Dragons use a wide range of chirps and peeps, and even sometimes purrs when talking. These noises are mostly used while flying, however. On the ground, body language is much more important, using the tail, wings, and ears to express moods and intent. A pack can hunt together completely silently and yet fully coordinated by signaling with the body.Food and hunting
The Floofy Dragons are omnivores, eating both meat and plants. Their favorite food is all kinds of fruit, but they also eat some leaf plants, nuts and roots. When they hunt it's usually for rodents or sometimes small birds. The most common hunting technique is moving through the treetops and gliding down to catch unaware prey. Families of Floofy Dragons can sometimes be found hunting together. Working together, they can set up traps where some herd the pray towards the other waiting to ambush. They have also been observed mimicking the sounds of baby birds or rodents to lure concerned parents closer for the catch.Nests
Despite their ability to fly, Floofy Dragons dig out burrows underground for their nests. They vary in size depending on the location, the number of Floofy Dragons and even which individual Floofy Dragons live within it. You usually find either one or a pair of Floofy Dragons living in a nest.Breeding
No one has ever observed the Floofy Dragons mate, which serves to reinforce superstitions about their origins. The young either grow up very fast or, as some claim, gets summoned fully grown.Quick guide
