What is a Di-Ne?

When Merlin created the veil between the worlds, he split his powers into magical divisions that would be reborn into the person most adept/worthy to wield it. These divisions are as follows:

• Light Magic
• Dark Magic
• Wild Magic
• Sight
• Alchemy
• Shapeshift
• Element
• Ether

He made it so that it would reincarnate at random so that no one bloodline or race could control or dominate the powers of Merlin and everyone could be equal in their chance to become a Di-Ne. These people were created to be the bridge between the worlds of magic kind and nonmagic kind in hopes of creating peace again. However, over time this goal became forgotten, and the Di-Ne became the peace keepers and protectors of the magical world.

Why are there 3 Divisions of Magic?
The ring of Merlin allows Di-Ne to exchange power without dying unless the power is forcefully removed from their bodies. When an enemy of a previous generation of Di-Ne got a hold of the Ring of Merlin and tried to steal the magical abilities, the process was interrupted and the power split into three groups because three people were fighting for control of the power at the time. 
These powers became:

• Dark Magic 
• Light Magic 
• Wild Magic

Something similar happened to the power of Sight, where the power was split into two, rather than distinct divisions however, the abilities were weakened/diminished. The power became unstable and when trying to use it, it can have unpredictable results.
