West Mosinan

When our people fled the cities of our once-great empire, they slowly lost their culture too. Either the caravans of the survivors of that terrible plague found their way to other Lizardkin clans and integrated into their societies. That, or they did a similar with other Kin entirely. They lost their heritage, the whispered language of the desert sands of their homeland forgotten behind them. The western provinces in particular were so underpopulated that their culture vanished entirely, with the few survivors joining their eastern fellows in their wanderings.
— An anonymous statement in the Scalegrey Institute
When the Blue-Wound Plague struck the cities of the Empire of Seral Fakhnata, they decimated the populations of the regions it hit. Because the western provinces were the first to welcome the carriers of the plague from the Princedom of the Steppes, whole villages disappeared before the imperial physicians were even aware of the plague's existence. Their colourful and vibrant regional flair vanished in an instant, including their language, West Mosinan.

Differences from East Mosinan

Much of what remains about West Mosinan is guesswork on the part of the people who studied it in the time after the Plague, as none of it was written down. It is assumed that East Mosinan was similar enough to be comprehensible to the West Mosinans, although they would have hit a roadblock in pronunciation. The accents of former West Mosinans has been described as "guttural" and "slippery" in comparison to the East Mosinan tongue, as their "gh" is more uvular and the r's and l's are more clearly defined than in the East.

Vocabulary and Cultural Knowledge

While the culture of the East Mosinan Lizardkin was hardly lacking in the period before their conquest of the West and North of their empire, it is commonly believed that the Mosinan Lizardkin owe much of their culinary and artistic variety to the West. The West Mosinans had a very detailed system of colour names that still forms the basic of the palettes of many diaspora Fakhnatans. Many Common North Vesran dictionaries have whole sections dedicated to the translation of Mosinan colour terms. Speaking of palettes, the unique spicy foods common to the West of the empire were naturally named with West Mosinan terms and then calques or borrow words were used in the East.

To think that the Mosinans have a word for the exact colour of the sunset hitting the western and eastern sides of a sand dune! It would make purchasing coloured pencils very interesting, that's for sure.
