Ursalite
Ever since I got Bink, I have felt blessed as though by a god. His white colour and soft face is the perfect pillow for me whenever I have a difficult day. Nothing compares to the feeling I get when I go on a promenade with him on my father's estate. Nothing! The image that many people have of Indikanis are the small bear-like creatures that live in its rivers, the Ursalites. Known for their size and their endearing growl, many people only encounter them as the domestic animals of the most wealthy. However, their real place is by the rivers and lakes that are their home in the far south of southern Jorandar.
Appearance and Behaviour
Ursalites can be differentiated from bears by their size and docility. Bears tend to be much larger, bigger than most sophonts of Dreandril, while the Ursalites are a similar size to toddlers. Unlike toddlers, though, Ursalites do not tend to wander far; they stay near their homes, which are usually made under trees and rocks. While they do have claws, they appear to mostly be for grabbing onto trees and not for offense. They come in a variety of black and white colours; pure white ones are the most prized and also the rarest, followed by pure black ones.Diet and Products
Their diet mostly consists of a mixture of berries, fish and roots. This varied diet resembles that of bears, but bears don't produce the thick syrupy stool that the native peoples of Indikanis lovingly call ahdage-ahyohi or "the love-bringer". It is a remarkable fertilizer for the Idkani farms and is one of the region's best kept secrets.Habitat
Most of the remaining Ursalites live in the Endak Forest where the native Idkani people have carefully conserved their habitat. They can be found throughout Indikanis, especially in the more far-flung parts of the forests there.

Poaching and Pets
The Idkani are in constant battle with poachers who have flooded into coastal homesteads to exploit the forest's natural resources, including the Ursalites. Seeing as one of their totems is this small animal, they feel a particular kinship to it and try to protect any Ursalites they come across. The reason that poachers find these creatures so attractive is that they have become very fashionable among the extremely wealthy as pets. Their small size and fluffy appearance makes them very cute and desirable, especially as young Ursalites can be trained to be more docile. Naturally, many aristocrats and high-class merchants do not care about the conservation of these creatures in their native habitat and are willing to pay the highest price to acquire one.Remove these ads.
